how do you guys come up with your own chord progressions?

now that ive gotten a firm undstanding of some basic and typical progressions such as 251 514 736 ect. im just wondering how does one even come up with these? are you just kinda playing around in the scale and finding some chords that sound nice together or is there a science to it that i missed in the guides? any help is appreciated im still begining
