No Disrespect to JeremyR but I must speak my mind. I've been on this site for I think over 5yrs. I joined when Uriah was posting all his help videos (Is he still a member?) Anyway, Jeremy you have really grown as a bassist. I can't recall the video but listening to you now and what I remember a few yrs ago, it sounds so much cleaner and better. It seems to me that you have grown into your own style and you're taking your bass playing to another level. Not only you, but knightmayorz also. He's a beast now and you can see how much he's grown since his first videos on youtube. I just thought I'll give you a compliment. That's what this site is for and it's paying off. My playing has grown tremendously. I've played for people I've on dreamed about playing for and alot of the stuff I learn came from here. I remember 5yrs ago taking my $75 bass to work and watching Uriahs videos just to learn how to do a simple shout walk. Alot of the stuff professional bassists do can't be taught. Some things you just have to learn on your own. I try to tell people that. And I see you have learned it. What I'm talking about I can't even explain but I try. When playing a bass you can simply just hit the know in the progression and it's be right. But what makes a great bassists is someone that can fill in the space between notes. I'm not talking about doing runs but more of what you can call passing tones or/and ghost notes. If you listen to Sharay, Maurice, etc. with headphones then you can see what I'm talking about. It adds so much to the song. I will try to show in a video what I'm talking about. But the point is, you have it and you can tell the difference. It sounds awesome. Keep up the good work.
Bless your ministry bro! I think that the videos/recordings really help you develop a sense of what YOU are and aren't doing. Otherwise you're depending on the critique of others who may not be musically inclined to guide your development. I noticed the difference in everyone that has been posting videos with us for all this time and it truly is amazing.
I feel I still have soooooooooooooooooooooo far to go though.
I believe if you look at your walk as a christian in comparison to your walk as a musician you'll find them strikingly alike in a sense. The more time you spend reading Gods word and studying the more you realize how far you have to go to be even truly worthy of praising his name. The same can be said about music. You think you have it, but the more you study and learn and apply the more you understand that you are barely even scraping the surface.
So we stick with it and push through the hard times and when you look back you can see the progress you made, but when you look forward you still see the journey is far off.
I'm looking forward to playing keybass with jesus on the lead..lol! Then the journey will be COMPLETE, but until Jesus returns we all have to keep on pressing on.
