Questions about a Pre Amp

I have a C3 Hammond Organ at my church and it seems like the bass keeps fading out as I play. It happens sometimes after I have played the organ for awhile. I talked to my tech today and he said it could be the pre amp. He said he would have to listen to it to make sure it's not something else. If I pull all the drawbars out, I can get the full bass sound and if I pull out both sets of drawbars for the pedals, I get the full sound.

My question is does this sound like a pre amp problem? And if so, how much does it cost to usually repair or rebuild a pre amp? Lastly, could this be a problem with my leslie pre amp and not the organ pre amp?

hey K!!!! you have had this issue for a while;maybe pm Sebastian@Wheatworks.To rebuild a preamp on a B can be pricey;few years ago I bought a used preamp because of a noise problem(which turned out to be in my 122).After swapping it out,was cheaper than a rebuild-but still some serious money!

Trek ll has a board that replaces the AO 28 guts,they still may make a total replacement solid state preamp.I've played the old version in a C3 and could NOT tell the difference!!!

Probably a $5-700 + cost;if your tech has spent this much time-suprised he hadn't found the issue.

Trek ll also has a small unit that clips on the pre-amp and sends a seperate signal to a bass amp.I think it's like $100;maybe look into that?

Hey docjohn. Thanks for the info. I figure this is going to be a pricey issue. However, I'm not sure if it's the amp in the organ or the Leslie. I mean it works fine, it's just the bass goes in and out. We bought the organ use and it was for a fairly cheap price, so I figured with it being old, we would have some repairs. But it has played pretty good for a solid year and now this. Thanks again for the information. Also, do you think I should stop playing the organ? I don't usually mess with anything in the back of the organ and I sure don't won't to harm myself nor the organ. Thanks!

NOOOOOOO!!! get it checked-but then keep on playing!!! I forget where you are at;so talk to Sebastian-he's an expert tech.See about pulling the leslie amp-ship it off for a rebuild;probably a cap in the leslie.
