Lightweight cab build
« on: March 08, 2011, 10:31:33 PM »
Well I finished up the cabs while LGM was down. Still need to spend some time working out the crossover and EQ but other than that I am finished.

Here are some pics of the build

Well the good thing about these is the plans are offered free online at greenboy.us.  I built mine a little different due to space constraints. There is also a 10 part megathread on the cabs over at talkbass.com

It's not too hard just time consuming.

Came out quite nice. What frequency did you tune the cabinets to, and are you building your own crossovers?

Thank you sir. Don't know how you do this all the time, I don't want to see another piece of plywood for a long time.  ;D

Anyways the only passive component is a HPF for the tweeter it was designed by Duke Lejeune. The woofer to mid is actively crossed. Right now I just have a LR8 at 700hz and some mild corrective eqing. I am going to bring my laptop to the next couple of engagements to do some tweaks.

Oh yeah and they are tuned to 46-47hz I believe. I have it written down somewhere in this mess of papers.

Active, good move, Duke know his stuff. I am working on an active setup for myself, I love dialing in frequencies.
Looking forward to hearing some sound clips of the rig, and as you have discovered, there is a whole lot more to cabinet building than most think.
Yours resemble the fEARFUL design and I'm sure they will deliver.

Blessings,

6SA,
I thought I share this with you, I'm sure you will appreciate the mirror-image configuration.

These wouldn't happen to be the cabs that Jahmal was playing in the last video with Dale Black.

No, these are the AX115 3 way mirrored. Jahmal was playing a AX210 over a AX212 3 way that was a killer rig as was the one Dale was playing an AX208/5 over an AX118 SUB. I thought you'd appreciate the 15's, lot of players sleep on 15's not realizing that a well designed 15 (as you have) will rival some of the best 4x10's out there. Thanks for looking.

I wish I had found out about these types a cabs a long time ago. I'm still waiting to hear the sheer output from one of the 15" loaded cabs. If I had the vehicle space I probably would have made a 12 and 15 loaded cab.

Also I couldn't quite tell from the video but was that a art pro channel on top of Jahmal's rig? I've been thinking of trying that pre out.

That is a Demeter HBP-1 preamp, it's driven with a 12AX7 and has parametric EQ very nice pre if you haven't tried one I suggest you do, I believe you would like it.
Oh, and the pro channel are sweet as well. Check out this website called basstasters.com lots of clips of various peramps that are on the market. Here's a video one of my guys shot Dale & Jahmal both play gospel along with some jazz and R&B. They never played together before and since they both endorse LoPHAT I thought it would be cool to hook them up for the bass bash. I've got an upright clip of the two of them I need to post on youtube, mods feel free to delete if it doesn't meet LG standards (is there a sticky for except able videos) anyway check it out again.
