« on: March 09, 2011, 09:26:18 AM »
OK DIRECTORS & M.O.M'S

SERIES OF QUESTIONS COMING YOUR WAY:

1. HOW WOULD YOU ARRANGE YOUR CHOIR (SEATING)
YOU HAVE 2 1ST SOPRANOS
                 2 2ND SOPRANOS
MORESO..... WOULD YOU PLACE THE 1ST SOPRANOS TOGETHER
AND THEN THE 2ND SOPRANOS ON THE NEXT ROW?
JUST CURIOUS....
AND MY 2ND SOPRANO'S HAVE VERY SOFT WEAK VOICES.....

It depends on your mic set-up. Weaker voices? They sit/stand closer to the mic to get the intended harmony you desire.

Or, make them altos. You said their voices are weak, not that they can't sing.
Despite our communication technology, no invention is as effective as the sound of the human voice.

Hmmm, that doesn't help me help you. Can they carry the alto note? If they can, perhaps that will assist in decreasing the cracky voice you describe.

OK THEY CAN NOT SING ALTO...

Now, we have a problem. If they can't hear the harmony part for the alto, how are they singing 2nd soprano; are you creating a part that fits the usual three-part harmony of most gospel songs?

Put the pitch-challenged singers amidst the strong singers.  If they don't sing, they might want to rethink their ministry calling. *kanyeshrug*

WELL I AM THE NEW DIRECTOR OF THE CHOIR AND SO THESE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT I HAVE NOTICED AND I AM TRYING TO GET A HEAD START ON IT SO I CAN FIX THE NOTICABLE PROBLEM
TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION I THINK THE DIRECTOR WAS JUST PUTTING ALL THE SOPRANOS TOGATHER AND THEY GET ON THE SAME KEY..THOSE THAT COULD

You'd have to give us examples of songs you all sing currently.

If they are singing those songs--well, then I suggest you merely find other songs by these artists (Chicago Mass, Georgia Mass, Timothy Wright--his 'Come Thou Almighty King' might work...it's simple and repetitive enough).

There's also Joe Pace and the Colorado Mass Choir

By any chance is this a Baptist church?

We typically warm up on some common/well known hymns.....Amazing Grace, Blessed Assurance, What A Fellowship, etc.

I'm a big movie guy so when I saw your 'next question' in bold and large, I thought of the character George Washington Duke from 'Rocky V'.

Don't mind me, I find little things VERY funny.

We don't warm up, we just sing. By the end of the first song, we're warmed up.  ;D

As a choir warm up, we sing Amen, it holds there voices, out and like I normally say,"Alright time to start and get them cob-webs out". It's easy and easy for a musician to pick up. It's in the key of C.
You can do it 2 ways: 1) as a 2 to 1 beat song {A.....MEN, A.....MEN......A...A....A....A.....MEN} It transpose up, from 0 to 4 at least.
CHORDS: your musican can always add what he needs this is just basic, and it can always be changed.
 LH/RH key: C

I'll post a video, of it when I get my piano back from the shop ha
