That reminds me of one of my pet peeves. I meant to ask Nessa and Jonathan if they have the same issue, but I always forget. No matter how hard I try, I just cannot get into songs that have blatant grammatical errors (such as "God Has Not Forgot" or JH & VOC's "If You Praise Me" (hate it)... and there are plenty more on the list.

I'm guessing you're not a fan of Jennifer Hudson's new single, "Where You At."

Many believe that spirits can be transferred through music regardless of the lyrics.  (Is that kinda what you were grabbing at LaRue?) People feel this is because in the Bible music was used to cast spirits out.  I've heard people say if you can cast a spirit out with you can cast it in, transfer it, whatever.

Even though I think I may know the answer to this I'm curious as to what others think:

 - If the music was written and played by someone with a demon or some negative spirit, but the lyrics were sung by someone who was living holy can the lyrics trump the music?  My answer:  Probably not or they'll cancel each other out

 - If the music was written and played by someone with a demon or someone with a negative spirit, but the lyrics were sung by a Christian or non-Christian, but they gave God glory would that trump the demon or negative spirit?  My answer:  idk.

Sorry, Koda those questions are outside my scope of knowledge so I have no idea

I'll give it a shot koda-roni & cheese. Both of those questions depends on the song.

If the song lyrics are about giving praise to God, then:
1. The lyrics trump the music. However, the music can affect if one wants to hear the song.
2. Praising God always trumps the demon or negative spirit.

If the song lyrics were something secular (non-God related):
1. The lyrics trump the music if you like the lyrics. If u just like the music, the music trumps the lyrics.
2. Depends on what the lyrics are. If there is talk of shooting and robbing people, fornicating, etc. u can give God all the Glory you want, but that ain't gonna fly. If there is talk like I love you baby, you're my best friend, I like kool-aid, etc. then I don't know.

Well the congregation, or my congregation, does not know who the song writers are nor their biographies. If they knew would the ruckus be bigger then taking a secular hit song and reworking it for church  ?/? I don't know, it has never come up and no elder has mentioned it.

Exactly!  The only time I got a complaint about a song that I chose for a service was when we did a song called "Holy Spirit". The pastor pulled me aside afterward to complain because the music was identical to an Earth Wind & Fire song he remembered hearing on the radio back in his "club days".  Then I sang for him the lyrics of the EWF song "Master told me one day,  I'd find peace in every way Having searched for the clue, One thing I was bound to do.  He said keep my head to the sky for the clouds to tell me why.".  After that he requested "Holy Spirit" a number of times and went out and bought the EWF CD.

Enter: The Church Boyz

Their whole set consisted of secular beats put to spiritual lyrics. They used beats from songs like the Terror Squad's "Lean Back" and other songs that were popular at the time. Everyone went crazy. Why? Not because of the great catchy lyrics, but because of the secular background beats that were being played. In that case, the music trumped the lyrics, because nobody even paid attention to the lyrics. It was the music that got everybody hyped.

They won, but they weren't allowed to perform.

Ahhhh, now u just added another dimension to the discussion, previosly released music that was secular in nature, now penned with gospel lyrics. This type is easy to discern. 9 times out of 10, the music will trump the lyrics.
