Why are y'all so comfortable calling her an idiot?

I have no problem calling her an idiot, lol.   I just don't.  Or maybe I should say that move by her was idiotic.  She could very well be very competent in everything else, but this one thing she is known for was a bonehead move on her part.

The image made me laugh.  I'll be honest.  I looked at it in the same regard I looked at the images of Bush while he was in office.  I laughed at them too.  In fact, some were the ones that U-13 posted.  I didn't think the images of Bush were racist.  Just because Pres Obama is black, I'm now supposed to change my view?

For a moment, I'll put myself in her shoes, thinking the way I currently think.  Had I received that e-mail, I would have laughed and thought nothing of it, but I WOULD NOT have forwarded it.  I have enough common sense to know that SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE might think it inappropriate.  The fact that she forwarded it says, to me, that either she's a fool and it's now coming to light how foolish she is...OR.. she IS a racist and was foolish enough to to think that ALL of her friends thought the same as she.
I agree.  It didn't make me laugh, but I agree with your sentiment.  I may not have been alarmed by seeing the image, I may have had some thoughts of resentment toward the author, and may even have asked the forwarder why they thought it was funny enough to pass on.  I definitely wouldn't forward it to anyone.

The thing that upsets me the most is that things like this continually happen and caucasians (sc) still believe that blacks are always playing the race card.  They think that we make it bigger than what it really is.

I've had caucasians tell me that they've experience the same thing that I have experience.  You may have experience a part of discrimination at one point or another, but you haven't experience what I experienced.

The sad thing is that racism isn't going to end, because the people that are in the positions to allow it to end, will not give us the satisfaction of knowing that it existed.  So they will continue to pacify us in other ways, just to have us feel that we are making progress.

But on the flip side, we as people have to stick together.  We will give each other up and write each other off faster than the other races.  One of us gets in the door and we feel that we've made it and expect a handout.  Instead of doing what we need to do to make it happen.

This is not everyone, but a large number.

There is a kind of blindness about racial issues some more well-off whites have. That could have been the case here, where someone would Photoshop an ape-like image of the sitting President without thinking through the implications and racial baggage behind it. Could have been - but I think it was intentional on the part of the person that made it.

A bit like the character on the Colbert Report insisting he "doesn't see color" while acting entitled...

Let them eat cake ... *sigh*

Quote
"Let them eat cake" is the traditional translation of the French phrase "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche", supposedly spoken by "a great princess" upon learning that the peasants had no bread. As brioche is a luxury bread enriched with eggs and butter, it would reflect the princess's obliviousness to the nature of a famine.
