Good Friday/Easter 2011 Services
« on: April 21, 2011, 12:08:06 AM »
What is your church doing for Good Friday/Easter weekend?

Friday, we're having (for the 1st time, possibly ever) a "7 last words" service at 10:00am. Not related to the holiday season, but that night we're having a youth service.

Saturday, we're having a youth prayer breakfast, youth workshops and an Easter Fun-Day.

Sunday, we're serving breakfast  at 8:30, having Sunday school and then just one service at 10:45am.

Our youth play is tonight.  It's a based on the show CSI, and they're doing and investigation of the crucifixion.  While studying the "victim" their hearts are changed.  It's really a cool play, I'm looking forward to seeing them do it.

It's a service with seven speakers who each speak on the seven last sayings of Christ as recorded in the New Testament.  Not sure where the tradition comes from, but my dad used to participate in one at the local baptist church.  It was cool, because they usually included pastors from churches of a lot of different denominations.  Usually a pretty good service.

I also have a sunrise service at 5:00 am Sunday morning.  Sunrise service here in Reno is a huge thing.  It's usually pretty packed, I look forward to it.

I WILL steal borrow this idea next year.

We combine with other churches in the Presbytery for Maundy Thursday service tonight at one church, Good Friday service focused on the last 7 words at another church tomorrow morning / early afternoon, and our Men's Group cooks and serves Easter Breakfast before service on Sunday.  Somewhere in there I need to squeeze in another choir rehearsal.  Our two selections will be "Proclamation" by David Whitfield.  My kids will play piano and bass on that one, and "Just For Me" by Donnie McClurkin.  I will play bass and lead that one.
