How many of yall got books that you started reading but never finished?
A great deal of my Christian books are unfinished. I just find that they're rarely written in a way that can hold my attention. A few authors can, like John Maxwell, but unfortunately, many of them are horrible writers OR they are decent/good writers and just write material that doesn't hold my interest. Unfortunately, most of the books I pick out sound better than they turn out to be, so if it doesn't capture me by the 15th page, I'll either skim through to find parts that I can learn from, or I'll give it away or put it back on the bookshelf.
Two of the most gripping Christian books I've ever read were
Becoming a Person of Influence by John Maxwell (which I can probably stand to read again) and
Understanding Prophetic People by R. Loren Sanford. Those books were GOOD, life-changing, powerful, informative, and extremely well-written. Oh and how could I forget
Prophetic Intercessor by James W. Goll. That was the first book I ever read where I literally could feel the power of God in the writing. The words were anointed, if that makes sense. I literally could FEEL God while I was reading the book. I don't know how to describe it, but that man is anointed and that book was excellent.
On the contrary, my secular books (all of which are novels) NEVER go unfinished. Even if they're bad or boring, I still feel compelled to find out what happens in the end.
