Terrible? Huh? We must not have watched the same movie cuz I laughed so hard during that movie I thought I was gonna pass out. I guess we all have different ideas about humor. *T-Block shrug*

I saw "Madea's Happy Family" and was underwhelmed. Nearly every character was a stereotype - from Madea to the crying baby and squalling babymama. Did laugh at the over-the-top Maury scenes, but thought the humor did not relieve the seriousness of the downer plot line.

Am a little hesitant to pay to see "Jumping the Broom" since the plot reminds me of that other wedding movie that came out last year - I forget the title, but it was about a wedding in LA and conflict between Black and Latino in-laws...in your opinion, is "Jumping the Broom" worth it?

So in other words it was just like every other Madea movie and play.   :-\

I used to like the Madea plays.  Now I don't know what I saw in them.

My co-worker, who is one tough movie critic, said that Jumping the Broom was excellent. He usually hates black movies, chick flicks and God-themed stuff. He and his wife have a deal - she accompanies him to see his stupid sci-fi and slasher flicks, and he takes her to see her chick flicks and dramas. He said that he thoroughly enjoyed it and that it wasn't a "black" movie at all. He said that they could've easily swapped the entire cast out for white folks (or any other race) and it would've been just as believable. He said that it was more about classism than anything, and that it was well acted, directed, and written.

That says a lot coming from him because he's like a movie nut.

I think we've discussed that before, haven't we?

Not necessarily the swapping of the scripts, but the whole "black movie, black issues, black lingo, black themes, and the overall blackness" thing...
