Oprah
« on: May 25, 2011, 12:11:10 PM »
Okay, even if you're not a fan, you gotta give props to the lady whose show lasted an impressive 25 years without ever selling out and going the Maury route (who remembers when Maury was actually a decent show?).

She is the ultimate success story, never allowing her status as Black, broke, and female to conquer her determination.

I haven't watched her show since the mid-90s, but I definitely take my hat off to her today. She's a brilliant inspiration, an overcomer, a builder, and a visionary. And she's someone that Black people can be proud of.

Congrats, Oprah. Best wishes for continued success. (As though she's reading this.  ::) :D :D :D)

Stop startin stuff... lol.

I thought about that before I posted it. Tried to remember whether there was a big debate on LGM or not. I couldn't remember and didn't feel like searching, so I just let it go. Truth is, her religious beliefs don't take away from her accomplishments, IMO. What she believes about Jesus is between her and Jesus... and in the end, her billionaire knees are gonna bow just like yours and mine will.

I mean, if we only celebrate people who confess that Jesus is Lord AND live holy lives, we pretty much need to close the Lounge down. LOL :D

Just like the President isn't a Pastor neither is Oprah, she is a great example of drive & determination! Her doctrine shouldn't have any bearing on the accomplishments of this legend.

CS:  Watched this video and started crying as soon as the first little girl said what she said.  I had a hard time stopping and quickly wiped my tears when I heard someone come downstairs.  My crying came as a shock to me.

I agree.

I did a search for the Oprah threads and saw two (or 3?) where it was discussed. In one of them, I said the same thing I'll say now: we have no evidence that she doesn't BELIEVE what she said. If she believes it, she didn't sell out. And none of us knows for sure what's in her heart and whether she believes Jesus is the only way or not.

That said, none of that has anything to do with her success.

Ummm, ok, I didn't cry. Came close with the lady who's mom died when she was 14. But... I didn't cry. Oh well. OAN, the girl that lost 20 lbs.... ummm... she didn't look like she needed to lose 20 lbs. I hope she doesn't have an eating disorder or some sort of misguided belief that she has to be super skinny.

She just said that the secret to her show's success is her team and Jesus........however, Oprah's Jesus is no different than any other "god" that people choose to worship.  Regardless, she is still a very well respected business woman and I believe that her intentions (however flawed they may be) are good.

I was never much of a fan of her show but I have always respected her drive and determination. The tv networks aren't going to know what to do without her show. This is almost the same as when Bob Barker left Price is Right....they still haven't replaced him. IMO :-\

Speaking of drive and determination, i was watching President Obama as he was addressing Parliament in Westminster Hall. I couldn't help feeling sad and proud at the same time. Proud because a black man had become the head of the most powerful nation in the world.

Sad because such an accomplishment is most likely not going to happen in the UK easily. This is such a closed society! The British are incredibly conservative and will close ranks on anyone they deem to be an outsider. :(

I witnessed a really disturbing display of flesh and ungodliness last night on FB between an apostle and a prophet -- all over the Oprah thing. It was so disturbing. I'm so glad you guys don't act stupid like that.

One made a status saying that Oprah was preaching kingdom principles in the finale and he loved it.

The other replied that we shouldn't get so excited just because someone names the name of Christ and that we should remember what she said about there being more than one way to God/heaven.

Others joined in and it got spirited. The status-maker then said "wait a minute, I didn't post this to start a debate," and said that this was his opinion.

The other person said he was right and she would go start her own status. So she did. Then she made a video expressing her opinion and some might say she threw off on him a lil bit.......

And that's when things got UGLY!!!

The prophet posted a status saying that Oprah is more of an apostle than the apostle will ever be because she has fruit that will remain. He mentioned the works of an apostle and said that Oprah had done them all without the title. She builds, establishes, oversees, edifies, etc. He spoke of Oprah's works and the apostle's lack thereof. He called her a garden tool. :( And said that she has no church, no members, etc.

It was really so upsetting. All over Oprah?? Like for real?? :-\

I only rarely comment on mme Rue's status updates. She averages about 15 comments per status update, and i don't want my bb buzzing all day and showing me replies of people i don't know.

She had a status update once that had close to 30+ replies. I nearly threw my bb away.
