Toddler Rail Design Question
« on: September 18, 2012, 10:21:46 PM »
I still have to show these to my wife tomorrow to get her opinion. But I also wanted an indepedent 3rd party (LGM). So if you wouldn't mind could you say the one you like the most and if you have a suggestion feel free.

Current my son's bed looks like We actually have an espresso finish this on is oak. Sorry it is a stock image ... but you get the idea.

So I came up with the following ideas. Sort of limited by my tool selection and my ability to build stuff.

Oh and please forgive my gimp skills it is a hack job.

1. The first one is just a large piece of wood in the corner. Top Right corner will be the weakest point.

2. The second one is the same as the first except the wood is moved to the middle. Structurally a bit weaker.

3. The third option hacks off the corners of option 2. Or i could make the corners rounded ... excellent reason to convince my dear wife that I need a jigsaw :D and a router!

4. The fourth option takes the existing railing and removes some of the bars on both sides to give my son enough room to get out but not enough to roll out of bed.

5. The fifth option builds on the fourth by taking some bars out of the middle instead of each side. I really like the 4th and the 5th option cause they look the strongest since there are no free sides hanging in the air.

6. The Sixth option is two squares in each side. same problems as Number 1 concerning strength.

7. And Finally the seventh option reminds me of a plate. I am a little worried that my son sliding out the bed would rub his bottom ... Maybe I can put a slide on it or something LOL!

all these pictures are hosted in my drop box so I will have to delete them eventually if you pull up this thread in the future and are wondering why the pictures don't work.
