Is anyone up on this "Chrislam" ideology?

There seems to be two issues here -

1 - The censorship of Van Impe's TV show by TBN because of his criticism of other preachers, like Rick Warren and Robert Schuller. Did happen. TBN refused to run repeats of the program, which led to Van Impe Ministries pulling it off of TBN.

2 - the rise of "Chrislam". Turns out to be the name of a small cult in Africa. Rick Warren and other religious leaders may be calling for tolerance and ecumenicism, but not the melding of these two religions...

Wow, that's some crazy stuff right there, but it's really not surprising.
The world likes to see Christians fighting and dis'ing each others. Just more ammo for the devil and his demons...

It seems like a lot of major stuff starts out in Africa.  Do you think Jack Van Impe should have confronted the ministers in question to their face or cry loud and spare not as he did?

I think "cry loud and spare not" was inappropriately applied in this situation, and I think it often is.

I do believe he should've gone to them sharing the truth in love, one on one. If he felt led to "cry loud and spare not" to "warn" the body, he can do that without naming names. It's the doctrine that makes the enemy, not the person. We don't wrestle against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness in high places. We gotta stay focused. If nothing else, Van Impe should check his motives. If he wanted to rebuke a peer, there were better (and more orderly) ways to do that. If he wanted to warn the body, he could've done so without naming names.

You might conclude it's some intern making a fact-checking goof, but that's not always the case.
Many of these false teachers have been warned, multiple times, in public and private - yet they persist in error...

Van Impe stated on his website that he privately warned the people he cited in his last broadcast on TBN.
Hank Hanagraff took Benny Hinn to task several years ago for some of his more extreme teaching. Hinn apologized - only to later return to them. 
TBN also yanked Hal Lindsey from the air for similar remarks (not naming names) he made as a guest on a TBN show.

No, people aren't perfect, they make mistakes, we shouldn't nit-pick - but if one is preaching in the media or the Internet, they are responsible for what they say. They shouldn't distort Scripture for their own money-grubbing ends, or lead others astray. TBN and similar networks are nortorious for allowing the worst of the worst to have a worldwide platform, with no oversight, all for the love of the almighty dollar.

What does Matt. 18 say? Discuss it with the person, then their superiors, then rebuke publicly....

Proverbs 27:5   Open rebuke is better than secret love.

The question is when?  Is this for only certain people in your circle?  Are there particular situations when this would apply?  Is it okay after you have gone to a person several times privately, as Betnich stated was done on part of JVI.

An example of open rebuke: Mark 8: 31-33
 
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

I could "divide" that passage, but I really don't feel like it right now. LOL. All I can say is that there are quite a few examples of personal (one-on-one) rebuke as well. (Nathan/David, Saul/Samuel... and the list goes on and on).

The Bible provides for both methods, but it depends on the circumstances. And I always say, it falls back on the MOTIVE. What is your MOTIVE?

@Nessa, I don't watch TV anymore, but when I did, I lovvvved to watch the Rays on The Word Network (heard they were coming to your old church, btw). I know The Word has a bunch of crap, but the good programs make it worthwhile (for me). They have a LOT of good ones (assuming they're still on the air).
