I got some new gear!!!!!
« on: October 12, 2011, 01:51:47 PM »
Hey LGM Bass Players!!

I just wanted to report I just got two new amps lol...well one is actually old, but new to me.

Up first is an Ampeg B5r. It's kinda limited in tone controls, but that doesn't bother me too much because my basses all have active eq's on them. It pretty much nails the classic Ampeg clean tone, it's honestly pretty SVTish. It has a separate overdrive channel and Octaver effect which are cool, but not extremely useful in church. What's really cool is I only paid $140 for it! And its USA made, not the new Chinese made toys...

Next is a Genz Benz Streamliner 900. I've been jonesing for one of these for a minute and I finally got the chance to get one. It's actually being shipped now, but I had a long test session at my local music store before I bought it. It has three honest to goodness tubes in it, and with them I can get the warm, syrupy tone tube amps are known for. It even does a pretty cool overdrive when the gain is turned all the way up. And it weighs like 8lbs, pushing 900 watts! I'll never use that much power, but the peace of mind from not having to crank both gain and volume past 4 o'clock is great! I'm really excited!!

Plus, I'm getting a new 2x10 cab today. The enclosure is made by Sonic, they make pretty decent, cheap cabs. The one I'm getting is actually one of the last handmade models. It's been refitted with Eminence Delta 10b speakers in it, and has a true compression horn. I finally have a powerful, portable rig lol! The cab w/ new speakers is good for about 700w, 1200w or so Peak. I just had to tell somebody how excited I was!! Now, all I need is a Ken Smith 6er or a MTD 634, and I'm good lol!!!!

God Bless!!

Bless the Lord!!  Bruh, I can only imagine how you sound going through that GB head.  :o :o  Im debating between a streamliner and Tone Hammer 500.  I have the tone hammer pedal and I like it, but I know that streamliner is tight.  Yall know Im team GB all the way, but Aguilar has been tappin me on the shoulder lol.  *chanting* WE WANT CLIPS!  WE WANT CLIPS! That SL900 is nice.. I see them used on TB from time to time.. I got my 9.0 from TB... I am thoroughly sold on GB... easy on the back.. easy on the ears.. not too complicated and versatile as all get out...

LOL, hilarious, I'm afraid I won't do any justice to the GB! I have to say, aside from a vintage, all-tube, Ampeg SVT IV, it's probably the best head I've ever played out of! We had our Pastor's Anniversary/Building Dedication service this weekend, and I was blown away with the fidelity of the tone and the extremely easy user interface (computer nerd, LEAVE....ME.....ALONE LOL!!). I can't say that it is the most transparent head when set flat, but I wasn't looking for transparency when I got it. This is the first new higher end amp I've bought, and I think if I ever get a new amp, it'll be a Genz Benz. I actually want to try one of GB's Shuttle amps, just to compare the two.

I've never played the Tone Hammer, but if Aguilar's amps are anything like their onboard pre's....I'm sure that thing will kill! ESPECIALLY with you playing!

I will try to get something recorded tonight after prayer, I've been meaning to give a little review of my 6 string Agile/Brice hybrid (lol) anyways.

+1,000,000 to everything you just said  :) I really was surprised at how powerful the EQ section is considering it doesn't have a 47-band graphic eq complete with semi-parametric mid shelving contour knobs with brigh/deep switches LOL! I didn't think I'd ever fall in love with an inanimate object, but I think I have lol.

.....Now if only I could afford that Neo1212 cab........

Bruh, I'm convinced we are both on TB ALL the time lol. I look at both of those ads everyday awaiting someone to buy the gear I have before they are sold lol! I just spent almost a G on the GB, plus the Ampeg and extra cab I bought lol....I'm going to be waiting for a while unless someone buys my extra gear...Thanks for the heads up though...

Quick questions, how do you like your Avatar? I hear good things about them, considering their prices are reasonable, but I've never played through one.

I haven't really heard much about specific models, just that Avatar's in general were great cabs, especially at the price point they're being sold in. I wouldn't mind a nice set of Bergantino's, but $1k-1500 is a whole lot of money.....

Yeah we did a thing at a church in Manassas and one of the sound guys was a bass player. He said he played a 9.0 through Berg 112s.. at the time I had my 6.0.. I like those Epifani's too.. I leave the Avatar at church (did I say that before..? ) and share it with the other bass player.. I am waiting for the opportunity to pair it with my 1212L which is also an 8 ohm 212 cab.. but so far I have not been presented with the opportunity..
