When should a Choir Director Consider Wearing A Robe?
« on: July 12, 2011, 10:19:40 AM »
I was visiting a church this weekend and this question came to mind.

The music was great, and the choir was on point but I just could not focus because of the choir director.  * Lord please help me to say this right *.  The young lady was a bit quite very large.  It seemed as if every time she tried to get into directing she would become conscious of her size and the fact that her dress was doing an upward slide at the back.  Then she would stop and make the adjustment.

When do you think a choir director should begin thinking about wearing a robe ?

IMO the director should wear a larger/longer dress, or {gasp} pants!
(thinking of a rule in the OT mandating pants for the priests, so they don't 'expose' too much going up the steps of the platform)

But, more seriously, wearing a robe works IF the choir is all wearing robes - not so good if you are a musician, especially a drummer or guitarist/bassist...

I don't think obesity should have anything to do with a robe. If she's wearing the right clothes for her size and body type, it won't matter much.

The problem is her attire and its fit, not whether she needs a robe.

It can in some regards. The bigger you are, the easier it is for you to get very hot. If she was wearing a robe she would probably be drenched in sweat. :-\

I agree with the obesity point.  It was only meant to show why the question came to mind.  Also, sometimes what we think fits really doesn't.  I'm sure this sister would not have worn the dress if sheknew she would be so self-conscious about it.

I agree with the larger/longer dress or even pants (if your church is ok with it) although in this situation I think the pants would have been worse because of how fluid the sister was.

The problem is her attire and its fit, not whether she needs a robe.
which leads to the bigger problem, the heart.

Wouldnt matter if she wore pants, a skirt, dress, or robe. If the heart is not in the right place concerning her appearance and dress then she might wear tight pants, the same skirt, a sleeveless back-out dress, or a robe that she takes off to show one of the above because its too durn hot.
