I remember My mom or my grandmother would give us a HUGE JcPenny catalouge and let us pick out what we wanted. I would go through and circle. She even gave me a budget. I would go through that thing so many times trying to maximize my return on investment LOL (wow I didn't realize my mother was training me at such a young age... I'm going to call her and tell her thank you and that I love her)
That's good stuff.
I remember a few years ago, my godson had a homework assignment where he was given a budget and a list of presents to buy, and a catalog (a fake/workbook catalog). And for bonus points, he could use coupons.

That's good stuff.
thinking the divorce rate is high because people are allowed to get divorces ...
I used to always say that I think divorce laws need to be stricter. I think unless there's abuse or infidelity, it shouldn't be so easy to get a divorce. And no, I'm not trying to make people stay in unhappy marriages. I'm trying to get people to stop being so quick to get married for all the wrong reasons. If you knew you couldn't get a divorce for 10 years, you wouldn't be so quick to get married on a whim.
Also, I remember reading a while back about a proposal to have marriage "blocks" (for lack of a better word). Marriage licenses would be given in like 5, 7 or 10 year blocks. So you got married for xx years at a time.

(not a good idea, IMO, but it would cut down on the divorce rate... lol).
