Where is your wife?

she wanted to start working again, so she picked up a part time job in the evenings

Thought just came to my mind.

Never back down and compromise on the quality of what you need in your life. If you see something good and know that it will benefit you, do not compromise and look for a lower quality alternative.

So, you're NOT going to buy that Gibson-knockoff you saw? :-\ :D

I don't remember saying I would buy one. :) I think that was Sketchman.

In any case, given my recent epiphany, I would skip the knock-off. :)

Given Fenix's recent epiphany, I'm going to try really hard to get that PRS

How much is the PRS? There was a Dean Palomino I saw a while back with 3 P90s. Uriah used to have one. It was pretty cheap too ($400 3 years ago). Not sure how much it would be now.

Just listened to Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On". If someone sang this at a funeral, it would wipe a church OUT!!!!!!  :D :D :D

Thinking about something someone said. This person said that black boys from lower class environments  don't get any accolades or attention for being smart or going to college,  but they are praised when they are good at dancing, music or sports.

Interesting...

That's not true, overall.

OAN, though, a point was made in the book I'm reading that the smartest kids in this area of the South Bronx aspire to careers like x-ray technicians, sanitation workers, and correctional officers. This is how limited their view is. A quote from the book:

"Many of the ambitions of the children," she replies, "are locked-in at a level that suburban kids would scorn. It's as if the very possibilities of life have been scaled back. Boys who are doing well in school will tell me, 'I would like to be a sanitation man.' I have to guard my words and not say anything to indicate my sense of disappointment. In this neighborhood, a sanitation job is something to be longed for.'"

Hmm, just heard a line from a movie that gives an interesting insight into the mind of the female. She tells the guy that all he has to do is say that she can trust him, and she will.

Sucker...

Most of these kids have never met anybody who has jobs other than lower paying ones, so oftentimes they don't even think about going into certain fields. And we almost never see black people on TV playing Doctors and other professionals.  That's the reason why I talk about "The Help" so much. There were professional black women who faced racism in the 1960's, why don't we ever hear their stories? I think subconsciously  we identify with these characters and the social positions they are portrayed in and this affects what we think were are expected to do or capable of doing.

@Fenix, the worst part is that a woman can say that and mean it, and a man can betray her trust and she'll still say it to the next man. She just wants to be able to trust someone and needs to believe that there's somebody out there who won't hurt her. That's a woman with really poor self-image and low self-worth. Sad.

Another thought I was thinking was that, to men words are relatively cheap. It is so easy to say "I love you" and all that.

Sad.

Very true, Fenix.

@U, exactly the point the author was making. I really want to do something to expose our inner city kids to entrepreneurship and the white collar world so they can see that they have options.

TJ's (repeated) comments about white people being bad drivers has me thinking about a stereotypes thread, debunking and/or explaining and/or validating them.

I don't know about color, but California drivers need deliverance.

Thinking about how I saw an itty bitty sports car flying past me in the ice and snow, and how he went to change lanes to cut me off (he thought) and started fish-tailing.  Dummy...
