Man, you guys make me fell like a slouch.

I'm workng on learning approx. 30-35 songs for my church (no particular timeline).  Our bass player passed so, I started playing for my church about 1-1/2 months ago (after about a 6-7 year layoff).

and here i thought the 5 or 6 songs I had to learn for choir day in November was work. Compared to you guys, i'm just 1 step above playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band

Not necessarily.  A lot of the 45 songs is remembering stuff that I used to play way back when (Pointer Sisters "Fire", Taste of Honey "Boogie Oogie Oogie", Sly Stone "Thank Ewe Faletinme Be Mice Elf Again", etc).  A lot of them are really easy songs where the tough part is remembering the changes (Adele "Rolling In The Deep", Lady GaGa "Paparazzi").  The rest are things that I never heard before, but now I think are really cool (John Mayer Trio "Vultures", Ingrid Michaelsson "The Way I Am").  And a few where I have to play and sing at the same time (GnR "Knockin' On Heaven's Door", Ray Charles "I Got A Woman", Prince "Never Take The Place Of Your Man").

None of that stuff is hard.  It's just remember changes and coordinating the vocals.

Rehearsing amost every night at this major Church I now play at in NO.  When I'm not at rehearsal, I'm somewhere playing for somebody usually.  But now, i'm really focused on learning this organ.  I've never played piano or anything before so I'm starting from scratch.  The good thing is I aready know theory and what this bass notes are so it shouldn't be like when I learned bass.  I didn't know ANYTHING when I started bass.  I'm watching organ players on youtube constantly and trying to get my muscle memory down.  My new hero is now MIKE BEREAL.   This is what I've been doing for the past month.

I've been cake baking as they day. lol I'm getting married next year. I have not been on the site much and have not been practicing too much in the last year or so. Good thing I already got my basses before this. I should have got my Hammond organ before I started dating. Lol
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

What's up everyone. Don't get on as much as I used to, i've been really busy. I have been checking out the site from my phone, just haven't been posting anything. A lot has been going on, but God has been really carrying me through all of the stuff that is happening. In the past few months my life has been turned upside down. But, God stepped in! I'm still gigging with my Jazz band & I hooked back up with this keyboard player & this crazy drummer(the drummer I just met) & they are trying to get me back in the gospel scene. Man but these young cats are killin. I'm 47 & the other two cats are twenty something. I am going to continue to play with these brothas, cause both are great musicians & I know that it will just make me a better musician. We played a couple of weeks ago at the drummers B-day party & the songs that we played were easy, it was just remembering all the turns in the song. I also played a song in 7/8 for the first time. Ya'll keep me in your prayers & check out Donald Alford II, he's a bad brotha.

Whass up fellow Bass musicians, I've been pretty busy lately. Haven't had to many opportunities to pop back and check in. Just finished playing a stage production for FatihWalk Production here in VA. Plus tons of new material to learn for church. Plus I'm back in school looking to earn my engineering degree.  :D
