A "Like" button
« on: November 02, 2011, 01:34:38 PM »
I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong forum, I don't know who the administrators/moderators are, but I was thinking how nice it would be if there was a "Like" button for posts in these forums... it would be a nice way to show that you agree, or to show appreciation/approval for posts or to acknowledge a particular post when you don't have time to reply so people won't feel ignored.

Not that the site needs one, and I'm sure it would require a bit of downtime for the site in order to update it, but I just thought it would be a useful addition.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I've seen a couple of sites that have that. I've also seen it been called "thanking" or repping.

What they said. :)

And I think it will give the lurkers a comfortable way to contribute without being in the spotlight.

I think that if you just click a "like" button, posters are less likely to address you openly (which is a comfort I'm sure some lurkers enjoy). If you actually TYPE "like" someone might feel comfortable greeting you or even questioning why you "like" it.

That even happens on FB. I'll "like" someone's status and then they're like "Hey Layla! Long time no see, how have you been?" or "yeahhhh girl, you know what I mean!" or something like that. Maybe I don't want to chit chat or discuss. Maybe I just want to "like" and KIM. *shrug*

Well for starters, it would reduce the number of posts, and make navigating the forums a lot easier.
Rather than having 15 posts that all say "Like", all the names of the people who liked the post would simply appear at the bottom of the post. Plus, you wouldn't have to type anything, you could just click "Like".

Besides, admit it, you know it makes you feel a little happy when people like your posts.

I think the Like button is pretty lame, but I'm not against adding one here. Just make sure yall use it, unlike the "Tweet" and "Share this topic on Facebook" buttons.  :D

Now you KNOW that's different.  We don't use that because we don't want our FB/Twitter friends coming here.  LOL!
