Help Breaking Down These Chords...
« on: December 29, 2011, 06:03:37 PM »
I'm learning this song, but there's a walk down they do that I can't quite figure out. It starts at 4:10

Ricky Dillard And New G-He's Been Just That Good

I figure out the first three chords (it's like a 2-5-1) and I think the next part does a 7-b6-b3-b5-2-3. I can't quite figure out the chords, though. Help?

There is so much music in that passage even I have to make up chords that sound like what's happening....
bass/right hand

Eb / Gb Bb Db F
Ab / Gb Bb C Eb
Db / F Ab C Eb
Gb / F Ab Bb Db
B / Bb Eb Gb
*E / Gb A D Gb
A / Ab B E Ab

(run) Eb,E

Bb / D Gb Ab Db
F Eb F / Ab B Eb F
Bb D F / Ab B D F

Old man ears at work again......
I love music, any kind of music.

By the way, this is my favorite song on the album. Here is what I here:

Eb / Gb-Bb-Db-F
Ab / Gb-Bb-C-F
Db / C-Eb-Ab
Gb / Db-F-Ab
B / C#-F#-A#
E / B-D#-F#
A / B-E-G#
Bb / Db-Fb-Ab
F / Cb-Eb-Ab
Bb / Cb-D-F-Ab

I used sharps in the middle to avoid having to write out double flats for some notes.  Theoretically, it's a 2-5-1 in Db, followed by a 5-1 in B, then a 5-1 in A, then 6-3-6 in Db. They are using a lot of layered/stacked chords in this progression. Hope that helps T!
