So, I learned today that a few of my friends will be without a job in March, when my company outsources our IT department.

That news paled in comparison to the REAL tragedy.

The department, Help Desk and all, is being outsourced to Bangladesh.

sorry to hear that, especially since it is the front line workers who will suffer ... not the upper management for IT. :(

That's really sad news.  Knowing you, I know you're affected by this.  I feel really bad for those people.  I understand it's just a business move, but dang, I wish the people that run these businesses would have a heart sometimes.

Oooh sorry guys. Thanks for caring, though. :) It really does suck, but that's the company I work for. I've seen them fire/lay off people a year before their retirement. I've seen them replace someone before even firing them (literally a new lady started before they had even let the old lady go). Over the past 3 years, I've seen them fire/forcibly retire the only 3 Black executives in the company. We have offices in 63 countries and 50 US states, and hundreds of officers, including about 50 corporate officers, and only 3 WERE Black... now there are 0. Even our offices in Africa are headed by white execs. They've been on a salary freeze for 5 years, but keep reporting "record profits." They do RIFs every single December (right before Christmas, of course), and then in January, replace all those people with younger, lower salaried people, or change job descriptions so that one person now does the job of two. This is my company. Nothing here surprises me.


OAN, Bangladesh????? You guys gonna just let that one go???
