Oooh sorry guys. Thanks for caring, though. It really does suck, but that's the company I work for. I've seen them fire/lay off people a year before their retirement. I've seen them replace someone before even firing them (literally a new lady started before they had even let the old lady go). Over the past 3 years, I've seen them fire/forcibly retire the only 3 Black executives in the company. We have offices in 63 countries and 50 US states, and hundreds of officers, including about 50 corporate officers, and only 3 WERE Black... now there are 0. Even our offices in Africa are headed by white execs. They've been on a salary freeze for 5 years, but keep reporting "record profits." They do RIFs every single December (right before Christmas, of course), and then in January, replace all those people with younger, lower salaried people, or change job descriptions so that one person now does the job of two. This is my company. Nothing here surprises me.

Apparently, I'm the only one (around here) who is angered by that. My bff/co-worker laughed at me. I'm truly devastated. Our help desk sucks as it is (except for my two friends), and they speak English with no accents. Can you imagine how sucky it'll be to try to get help from someone who (a) doesn't know the company, (b) doesn't speak clear English, (c) UGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH GOD PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been working in a supervisory role with an offshore (India) team for years.  We have some great people over there.  Bright and hardworking.  They are greatly outnumbered by people who give me daily headaches.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I really don't care how bright and hardworking they are if I can't understand their English. I'm sorry, but Indians have very thick accents, and help desk support is not an area where you need more hindrances to problem resolution.

But whatever... this country is going to hades and most folks really don't care anyway. One thing I loved about President Obama's SOTU address is that he mentioned wanting to heavily tax those companies who take their business outside of the country to save on labor. I agree with him, but I doubt it'll ever get done since there doesn't seem to be an urgency on anyone's part.

Did you think I was giving them an endorsement?   

A few of them (5 of the 50+) are great (with excellent english to boot).  Bright, reliable, hardworkers.

The rest give me nightmares.  Overall I'm not satisfied with them.

I guess I just wanted to eliminate the positive tone from your post.

Seriously though, I'm so angry about this. I remember when I used to have Sprint, any time I called, I'd get an Indian. After that one time I got so frustrated that I yelled at them, I stopped speaking to them at all. Whenever I would call, as soon as they answer, I'd insist on talking to a supervisor (bc they tend to be American or at least don't have heavy accents). They would try to get the gist and I would completely refuse to cooperate at all, and just insist on talking to a supervisor. Once in a blue moon, I get an Indian at T-Mobile, and I do the same thing. I just refuse to even try because I know I won't understand them. I'm sorry, but it is what it is.

I think thats partly because most of them already have ties to those outsourced companies.  I doubt anyone is eagerly ready to tax their own money.

Actually, Fenix et al., I don't hate accents. I am slightly hearing impaired, and I hate Indian accents. Not sure if the two are related, but I suspect they are. Indian accents are harder FOR ME to understand, and not being able to hear well doesn't make things easier. I do not have that problem with most other accents.
