Angry Black Woman

Even with positive role models like Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey do you still think most of society sees most African American women as "ANGRY"?

I think shows like "Basketball Wives" and "Housewives" do a pretty good job of negating most of the influence the Michelles and Oprahs have on that particular stereotype. It's like we're shooting ourselves in the foot and then complaining that the race isn't fair.

With uplifted hands,

Angry? This One never saw it that way.

Bitter/Damaged, on the other appendage, is more fitting.

Im with teej. It's sad that so many black women embrace these shows that reinforce these stereotypes. When women watch these shows for so many years, they begin to act like these characters and the stereotype  becomes even more true.

Most of the time if they are bitter, its because of their own choices.

What's more sad, is that when I assert myself in the work place or do my job as the supervisor, people always fall back on how they felt intimidated or whatever.  That's not me, that's their own mind and preconceived notions.

I wouldn't use the word angry.  Maybe sometimes too "strong".  With black men being degraded for many years in this country, black women have assumed the stronger, more dominant role overall.  Don't get me wrong, at some point the responsibility lies solely with black men to be stronger emotionally and take responsibility for us seeing the black woman as supposing to be angry/strong.

I don't know what most of society thinks since I tend to avoid most of society and its perspectives on things, being a Christian and all.  I can only speak from my experience.  In my experience, black women are just black women.  They generally don't have angry dispositions, but can be angered like anyone else.

Are most,if not all women angrier or more stressed or something??

Ladies,I'm asking in all honesty-based on what I see in many relationships that I'm privy to.I know a lot of decent guys who are in a fairly constant state of being spouse-abused by emotional bullies.

I see couples fighting over "hello, good morning,etc.".(in other words-ain't jack to get wound up about)

I sense it's a spiritual battle;many of these folks are "conflicted" in love/hate situations;my guess is it's unresolved @ home and travels and spills over @ work/school/church.

Something else to pray about!

True. It's just that the dynamics of the situation varies between races.
