There may not have been a need to worry before now. *kanyeshrug*

Another problem with the 'bar' set by the government is that it doesn't take into consideration any gains made by schools.

For example, my school has increase its reading and math scores consistently over the past four years; yet, we haven't made AYP because we haven't hit the number they deem necessary.

That's a shame. This is why the people who make laws need to be in the field seeing what makes sense. SMH.

It's interesting to me that the AP school system mandated and controlled teachers, students, curriculum and had a significant part all the way to the top administrative levels.

Yet now they are "prosecuting" the case albeit with outside supervision. The "blame" for a lot of this resides with them;it will be interesting if there's anyone at that level held accountable.

The chinese ed system would probably be a rude awakening!!I think they have a heavy measure of discipline;self or otherwise.Like Singapore-"cane" you to just short of death.Probably about as bad as the "nuns" were  when I was a kid-they would put the fear of GOD on you.

Hmm, you raise an interesting point... but I highly doubt anyone on top will be held accountable, though a few were placed on leave, and ultimately resigned. I know at least two administrators from the Board of Ed (or whatever it's called in Georgia) relocated to take other jobs in other states, and were fired when the word got out that they were involved in this.

yep!!!! By the time I was 11;I decided I would be a physician, priest, baseball player, or musician.

By study, work, self discipline-several decades later I have accomplished 3 out of 4.I used to be able to chuck a 90 mph fastball-I suspicion that will wait till heaven to duplicate.

Looking at all the odds,I should have never made it past a community college level ed-if that.

Praise JESUS

Exactly.   This is why I'm so adamant when folks try to talk about the educational system on the teacher level.  Many of us are doing our jobs.

Agreed. The system needs an overhaul, first and foremost. As far as the administrators, teachers and parents (and students, for that matter), you have some good ones and some not so good ones. You can't just apply blame to an entire group with so many variables involved.

I really believe many miss this point.  Learning is about possessing discipline to sit and learn no matter the subject.

IMO, that's exactly why the kids are failing. True learning is more than just sitting all day, and being told what to memorize for 18 years.

I'm pretty sure if they do enough digging, they'll find a lot of dirt around the country.

The problem is finding the real culprit who have caused this mess.
