Which is better to start with a Great amp or Great AX?

I have had this debate with my friends
and wondering what others think...
If you could only buy a great amp
and have a avg ax  Or have a great AX
with a avg amp. What wld u choose and why?

I felt a great amp with avg ax will do.
by great amp I mean it sounds g8 2 you
vers, just has that vibe!!!
By great guitar it feels g8,
plays G8.
 BTW I realize
great players can make anythg sound good.

If you have to chose, it's better to have an OK guitar and a great amp (IMHO) because a horrible amp will kill an otherwise great sounding guitar.  But with the abundance of quality used gear, you should be able to have both a great guitar and amp and save some money in the process (money that your wife can use to buy a few new pairs of shoes  )

to me there is so much quality in the mid range market the only reason to go fo the high end stuff is if you just have the money to burn and WANT that piece of gear.

Since a good portion of how I sound is directly proportionate to the quality and playability of the guitar, I'll take a nicer guitar over a nicer amp any day.
I can tweak even the cheapest amp to sound decent, but I can't do much with a cheap guitar as it will hinder my technique.
