UGH. It really annoys me when I get that server error thing on LGM. It takes me forever to change the words to make it post. Very annoying.

On the flip side, while I've never been rooted in a predominantly white church (I did spend some time congregating with one my Freshman year of college), from what I can tell, the "Pastoral" position isn't as glamorized as it is in the Black church. The money and fame is there of course (or at least I assume...I don't know how much they get paid), but those pastors receive a LOT of hard-nosed discipline. The whole "touch not mine anointed" aura that exists in the black church seems totally reversed in predominantly white churches. They publicly call each other out for certain teachings and have Elders that they have to answer to. Seminary qualification is accented as well. They hold them highly responsible.

Again, this is just what I can tell from the ministries I pay attention to.

I remember your freshman congregation. :D

And yeah, you're spot on with your assessment. In the white churches, it's totally common to be introduced to Jim Watson only to find out that HE'S the pastor. Or you might be introduced to him as Brother Jim. And you best believe that its pretty unlikely that Jim doesnt have a divinity degree of some sort, or that he was appointed as the pastor as opposed to starting a church from the ground up. For the record, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with starting a church. I'm just saying, most white churches today aren't started that way. It's also unlikely that he has under 75 members - unless he's old school Pentecostal.

Nothing else for me to add but a....

Cosign!!!!!!!

Oh wait I can add something.

The bad thing is you have Ministers, who have not been properly ordained, becoming Pastors or calling themselves Pastors, Bishops, Apostles, etc.

I know a guy right now who was 22 a few years ago when he started referring to himself as "Overseer" and then later, it was "Bishop." Then a mega church pastor gave him an honorary doctorate, so now, at like 25 years old, he's Bishop Dr. John Doe. He does not pastor a church, and technically never has, and he hasn't even earned a Bachelor's degree, let alone a doctorate.

When I was younger, bishops were old.

So, would I be wrong for saying this dude ain't a real bishop?  I mean, hasn't even pastored a chu'ch (int)?

I just googled him. I'm sorry, he's actually International Presiding Bishop. I'm not sure of his birthday, but I don't even think he turned 25 yet. His bio says that he's an adjunct professor at the same college that awarded his doctorate. God help us.

Around here, we have people who start churches simply because they don't want to be subject to anyone else. We have more dictators than Pastors here too. They use mind games and clichés to control and manipulate folks and those who are spiritually weak fall prey to this junk.

Well to be fair, on paper, he is the pastor of a church. But in reality, that church doesn't exist. He hired me to do his legal paperwork for him a few years ago, and right after everything was drafted, he sent me his itinerary and asked me to send it out to all my friends, contacts, etc. I emailed him back and said "whoa, how the heck are you gonna make this work with a new church???" He was gone practically every Sunday, and every week (to his credit, he's a very popular prophet and after hooking up with a mega church pastor, he blew up practically overnight). He said that he would do the launch service, and then from there on, he would do services by satellite whenever he was on the road. He recorded one sermon in his hotel room and I guess the plan was to play the video for the "church members." I couldn't do anything but laugh. I mean, for one, he never had any church members in the first place. Secondly, it's just dumb. I chalked it up to youth, but now I see it as just another person who views ministry as a lucrative alternative to getting a job, and a nice way to get status and become important.

How do these people justify themselves to God?
The car, job, house wife/husband are not the reward, God is.

How do these people justify themselves to God?

They say,

"Lord I am using the technology you've created for me to spread the Gospel.  I am preaching to all corners of the Earth and what better way to do it than with the use of satellites, online websites, etc.  You wouldn't have elevated me to this level, if you didn't have a plan for me."  Something like that.   #dangerous

How do these people justify themselves to God?
They continue to lie to themselves until they actually start believing their own lies. I'm not a perfect person by no stretch of the imagination but I've always been afraid of playing with God.

People that should be pastors usually don't want it and people that are dying to get it aren't even 20% qualified.

Hearing stuff like this really pisses me off. I'm sick of people, especially US, making a mockery out of the Gospel for some coins and a title.
