Yesterday, afternoon our church (SouthBay Community Church in Fremont) combined with another church out of Oakland to put on a special concert to raise money to help fight child slavery. The rehearsals were held a couple of weeks ago, while I was on vacation, so I didn't know the songs. I heard through various people that they had a very good bass player to play the concert in my place.
To my surprise, my sub was the renowned JOEL SMITH !!! As I sat in the audience, I was blown away by his chops and technique. I WAS TAKEN TO SCHOOL! Some of the stuff he was playing was just sick! Good thing I recorded the concert. He opened my eyes to different ways of playing a couple of the songs that I was familiar with. Joel was playing his 6 string ash/maple MTD. The tone was just awesome.
