One of my best friends had a girlfriend when they were both at Howard who was given a kitten.  Neither one liked cats at the time, but learned to love the cat.  The cat became their 1st child when they eventually married.  Anyway, before they got married, the cat used to stalk Matt whenever he came to visit her.  When she saw him coming up the walkway, the cat would climb the curtains and perch on the valence.  When he came through the door, she would pounce and land on his back or shoulder......and grip HARD.
He was apparently encroaching on her territory.

That's funny...as long as you're not Matt.  :-\ :D :D

I've neither heard, read (until now) nor experienced anything like that.

Get some cheap red pepper and sprinkle it over the yard and porch. They will stop coming around because they lick that when they clean themselves. Water will work but Im sure the cat will not like pepper being on it. My wife still has a cat if anyone wants him. He may be gone by the end of the week.

I will try the red pepper thing

The unwanted visitor (cats) will keep the unwanted guest (mice) away.

However, I feel you about having them on your property.

Picture this: The little kitten keeps coming into your yard. It looks like it hasn't eaten in a week.  In my case 225 puunds, size twelve shoe I could stomp the cat and throw him in the trash, no problem. The cat looks you in the face and says; Meeeoow, eyes pleading,  I'm hungry and have nowhere to go.  will you help me?  I know better, but I go in the house to see what I can find.

Good point!  One of my co-workers just got his car back after being in the shop for 3 weeks.  They replaced his brake controller, ignition controller, and some other electrical controller before they  figured out that the problem was he needed a whole new wiring harness.  Because a rodent had apparently chewed through his  wiring harness, essentially frying all the control modules that run off of his wiring harness.  After he told me that I immediately put rat poison in the garage under my wife's car.

Better the cat ON the car than the mouse IN the car.

I think the pepper thing is kinda mean. And the cat may not know where he's getting the pepper from so that may not work as well as you'd think.

I'm sorry for being a spoil sport. I just think that's mean.

I think it's mean too, but I also think spraying water on them is mean as well.

I believe I heard that on the news. He will know because he will smell it for one and two they are constantly cleaning themselves. I try not to think about all the cat dandruff and hair getting into the food and air. My dad came and checked our air conditioner. A good portion of the thing the filter covers was filled with old hair.

Water is harmless and it just annoys them more than anything else. It doesn't hurt. Pepper can hurt, even if it's just momentary.

I sprayed the cat a couple of days ago and didn't see it for a few days, but my wife saw it sitting on my car when she came home yesterday.

Yeah, cats will keep coming. That's why I think the pepper will work because it will continually be in the yard. I dont know if cats have a memory is issue just dont care. :D I dont let the cat come in our bedroom so the door pretty much stays closed but we open the door sometimes. The cat pretty much knows to stay at the door. He will sit or stand there for a while but after a few minutes he will walk in and try to walk to the closet. He always does the same thing no matter how many times. He stops at the door because he knows he is not supposed to come in but when he thinks we aren't playing attention he comes in. ::) Maybe you should just put the pepper around your car. You probably need a large area around it though. Then wait a few days. If the cat pees on your clear coat its a wrap for your paint job. lol

Spraying is commonly used to train cats, so I know that it works for training. But like any other training, you can't just do it once and expect it to work. Especially not with cats, because as MM said, they just don't care. LOL. Cats are a trip. But yeah, keep spraying every time you see them and it would help if your wife would do the same (but I know she doesn't like cats so she may not want to).  After a while, they'll stop (assuming it's the same one cat).

Nuh uh. I trained all 3 of my cats with a spray bottle. They NEVER came on my couches and they never went in my kitchen. I had those babies for years and that training lasted the whole time. It takes a while to train them, but once they get it, they got it.

...wonders what they did when you were gone. Hehe My wife's cat gets sprayed at times but he keeps coming back. He may stay away for a time but he is coming back. Maybe we don't spray him enough. The parents will be taking him soon. :)

Yeah, you have to be consistent when training them. You have to spray them every time they do the behavior, and if you're not going to be around to see them, you have to prevent them from being able to do it (closing off part of the house, etc.). If they think that every single time they go into the kitchen, they get sprayed, they will not go into the kitchen because they hate being sprayed. But if sometimes they get away with it and sometimes they don't, they'll take the gamble.

This.   We have always trained our dogs to stay out of the living room.  They have interpreted it to mean "......while you are at home".  How do I know?  When I'm outside mowing the lawn and see a pair of pointy ears watching me from the living room window.  They never figured out that you see both ways through glass.  That and the occasional tennis ball left in the sunroom (you have to go through the living room to get to the sun room).
