New Bass and Amp - Kingston KZ5 / Gallien Krueger MB210
« on: February 18, 2013, 11:36:34 AM »
Just picked it up on Saturday and used it sunday. So far I like it. I have been playing my Lakland 55-01 as my goto bass and this one has a different sound and feel. I am really impressed with it's feel. I will say I am not "in love" with the electronics, but they are good. Thinking about swapping the PUP's for some Nordstrand Big Splits. The real highlight of the day was the GK MB210.....WOW....this amp alone killed in the tone catagory! Just for kicks after the service I used the extension speaker out and connected my SWR 410. The power, punch, and clarity bypassed my SWR 750x. And not to mention a combo that only weights 33lbs. All in all a really fun weekend!!!

I am personally not a Fender bass amp fan. I had a Bassman 250 1x12 combo as a practice amp a few years ago that was just a big problem out of the box. I just could not get a good sound out of it. I also tried the Pro 400 2x10 combo at a church I visited and the sound was just not what I wanted. Too much mid "honk' and no matter what I tried with the EQ I could not get it to smooth out. I tried a rumble 350 head and 410 cab side by side to the GK in the store and the 210 GK smoked the rumble in my opinion. I feel that the GK has a cleaner sound and fits right in with the modern bass tone.

GK is always a good choice!

I agree 100% I am very pleased with the sound of this amp.

I agree with Slappers above.  Though I actually really like Fender amps for certain applications, none of those applications are live.  The GK naturally does the modern sound really well; and with the right bass, it can do warmer more traditional also.

I currently use a GK MB 210 as my main gigging combo and not the Fender Rumble that is in my band's practice space, or my SWR Black Beauty because it is simply offers the most clean power of the three, is versatile while letting the bass's voice speak and is only 33 lbs.  Mine did take some breaking in before I was satisfied with it, but I have grown to really love the GK.
