Bassist -> Guitarist

I'm a bass player who is looking to learn guitar also now. Any tips from you guys that will help me along the path?

Quite a few of us have don the opposite.  I would suggest taking your time to get comfortable with playing chords, even if you already play chords on bass (which doesn't seem to be that common).  But you'll see how different bass notes affect the feel and sound of chords, you'll find yourself at least sketching out bass lines when playing rhythm guitar .  And be patient; a lot of what you know on the fretbaord will apply to the guitar as well, but you'll probably need to get used to at weird interval between the G and B strings.  Plus, you may find the guitar "too easy" to play in the sense that it is a physically smaller instrument.  Do yo plan on starting with an acoustic or electric guitar?

My advice would be to get used to the b/G strings interval as fast as possible!!

and d'ont get caught up in solos, learn how to play rythm guitar first!!!

Heh, I started out on bass (5-string) and have been learning guitar the last 2 years.

As stated by others, one of the most "annoying" things is the G-->B string. I still get thrown off when navigating around the first 3 strings and reverting back to my "bass" scales. So I need to make sure to practice scales on both instruments.

Another tricky thing for me to is how my 5 string has B as it's lowest string, but my guitar has E as it's lowest string. It hasn't been too bad since I started off on a 4-string bass for a while before moving to a 5-string bass. But it's another thing to think about.

Lastly, if you don't use a pick on bass, that takes some getting used to for playing guitar with a pick.
