I never heard of...
« on: February 09, 2013, 08:30:02 PM »
Hi guys back with another thread. And it is a surprise one at that. I mean this is the very first time I have heard of Orianthi & Tony MacAlpine. I mean they are both great guitarist. Tony Macalpine is sick on lead! Orianthi is good too! Her playing style is different than Jess Lewis, though. But my main question I have is that how did Tony get so fast with his playing?

Tony was first a classically trained pianist and the dude could play pieces by Chopin when he was young.
A prodigy, maybe...
When he transferred to guitar he just adapted his musical knowledge to a new instrument, mastered the technique and 'whoomp, there it is'.
How did he get so fast? He got an extra blessing of ability and practiced his rear-end off.

Orianthi is a devote of Carlos Santana and was impressive enough to have been selected to fill one of two guitar spots Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' tour.  Jackson, of course, passed away before the tour could get off the ground.  Last I heard, she has been the guitar player for Jason Lambert's touring band.  She's also got a PRS signature model (also available via there SE line in case you don't have a lot of $$$$$$).

You're speaking of Tony, of course, because Orinathi is a female. ;)

Before and after that, sort of. He's combining sweeping w/ economy picking and tapping.
