Why does these chords sound exactly the same? Im in the key of C. Here are the chords

I know that I am in the guitar forum, and I am not a guitar player, but I can usually follow the line of thought and play the chords mentioned.  I am curious about the list of chords with the numbers shown.  B-8, E-10, D-10 and on,  what do you mean? How could such chords sound enough alike to be at all confusing?  What do A-X and E-X mean?

The first character is the name of the string:
E
B
G
D
A
E
That's a 6 string guitar convention used for tablature.
The number following the letter is the fret number that you place your finger on:
E-0
B-1
G-0
D-2
A-3
E-x
The above would be a C major chord, open position. X means that you don't play or mute that string. 0 means the string is played "open" or unfretted.

You learn something every day.  I didn't know that the strings on a guitar were configured that way.  I thought that they were in fourths like the bass except for (one?) string. And looking at those chords, it would seem that you would also have to use one foot to play two of them.  Even more embarrassing is the fact that I can play the bass at a get by level and am somewhat familiar with tablature.

They are in fourths, except the G to B interval, which is a major third.

The written convention is weird, because the guitar neck is upside-down, but it's written that way so that it makes sense if you're holding a guitar in your hands and looking at the fretboard.
