J Style bass pickups
« on: November 27, 2013, 06:47:15 PM »
What's up LGM... Quick question, just got a MTD Saragota 5 string, and want to change the pickups. Want more of the mellow sound, my other bass is a  Tobias Deluxe V5, for the bright stuff. I have looked at the Bart's, EMG's and the DiMarzio J style pick up's. Any help would be appreciated.

Barts are definitely the best out of the 3.

I haven't had any experience with DiMarzio.  I like EMGs but, I wouldn't desribe them as "warm".

Out of the three, I would go with Barts.

+1000 for the Barts

On the other hand, the DiMarzio J's are 99% the same as the pups Sadowsky uses, so if you like that sound I'd say get the DiMarzio's....the Barts are definitely darker sounding, but pair them with an Aguilar OBP-3 or the Bartolini NTMB-918f preamp.....a thing beauty!
