Beene Playing a lot more lately. Had a program with Lee Williams yesterday. It was a little rough had sound trouble as well as amp problems. Luckily Al Hollis was nice enough to let me use his amp on top of that their other guitar player kinda schooled mje on some things after the concert. It was cool that they were down to earth and would actually talk to "regular" people for lack of better terms. So at the end of the day the good out weighed the bad.

Feel like I've been playing way too long to be where I'm at in my guitar playing. Granted, everybody goes at their own pace, I started fairly late in life, don't play at church regularly anymore, have a guitar neck who's shape causes me pain after prolonged use, and don't practice as much as I should, but that's no excuse. I know I could be so much better. While I do have other musical interests (chiptune, ukulele, drums, recorder, etc) I need to find a way to balance my musical time a bit more. Don't want to be a JOAT MON. I want to master at least one of them.

I could benefit greatly from a few books. Internet is nice, but, while it provides near limitless knowledge, the electronic medium can be inconvenient in so many ways.

Nice to be able to say that "out loud".

You should probably start by getting a guitar that's more comfortable to play.  When you say "prolonged use"; how much time are we talking about?

I've never really timed myself, and I'm really bad with extimating time. I guess, like, 30 minutes constant? It's usually only when I play a lot of barre chords. If I'm playing mostly lead type stuff then it's okay. When my hands are a bit more warmed up it doesn't hurt much.

It's always good to stretch and a warm up before you begin playing' and NEVER play through pain.  There are some chord voicings that even I (being the Stratmaster that I am  ;)) find uncomfortable to play.  These are the ones to avoid until you work up to them.

So... I finally replaced the old strings on my acoustic guitar. Unfortunately I really wasn't paying attention when I bought them I guess... .12 gauge "bluegrass" strings are not appropriate for someone who wants to play expressive "bluesy" string bends :S

oops. Well I guess I'll be changing these strings in three days, lol. A big difference from 2 years, lol.

LOL. It's been a couple years on my current acoustic strings too. I don't usually pick it up too often but recently I've been noodling on it. They definitely need to be switched out.
