Looking for a good delay pedal ...
« on: January 04, 2014, 04:47:47 PM »
Hi guys. I am trying to find what good guitar delay effects pedal would be nice to get. For example, I had heard this one time where this guitar player had this Line 6 spider IV 150 amp, and I had heard for the very first time this nice sounding delay to an echo effect. It sounding so cool that I don't even know how he did what he did on the guitar. Now I'm out looking for a delay pedal. Should I be looking to purchase a line 6 amp or look for a guitar pedal to try if it can produce the sound I heard? By the way, I think this is a great video on youtube about the line 6 amp. What do you think I should do?

I have another question. Can you have kind of a tap delay with the boss dd7 and is that feature more easier to put into effect?

I have played on a boss delay pedal once before at a store, and man, it was very confusing and complicated to actually get it working correctly. I don't know on what to further say, but I will be defiantly checking out on purchasing a delay pedal some time in the future hopefully. I just don't know which one to get as of yet and am kind of on a tight budget as far as spending goes.

Overview
  • Expanded delay time, up to 6.4 seconds

  • Modulation Delay mode offers natural, chorus-type sounds

  • Analog Delay mode models the classic warm BOSS DM-2 analog delay sound

  • Tap tempo controllable via external footswitch
  • Delay time, feedback, and effect level can be controlled via external Expression pedal (sold separately)

It looks like the boss dd7 is the pedal to get, but I will have to save up some serious of money to get it. For how much does it cost these days?

...also to add:  Delay pedals are easy to use.  Tap-tempo is nice, but it wont make the pedal easier to use.  Pretty much all you have to do is select a delay mode and adjust the time and repeats ("feed back") and level and you're all set.  Tap tempo makes it easy to set the delay to the tempo of the song by tapping an external expression pedal so you can keep playing.  Some delays have the tap built into the pedal itself and don't require an external switch.  Sure beats having to kneel down and try to manually adjust it (I know....I have a DD-3).

I'd really like it if my digitech multifx pedal had tap tempo for delay. That's one bad thing about using an "all-in-one" pedal. So inconvenient to change settings of different effects on the fly :\

External tap tempo pedals are easy to make. All you need is some wire, a jack and cable (or just a cable if you want to wire it directly), a switch, and a box to put them in. Altoids cans work :3 Solder is nice but not actually necessary.

I forget what type of jack and switch is required, though.

I used to own a Digitech GNX-3, it did have a tap tempo on it. That's not a super great pedal, but it serves the purpose

My DD6 has integrated tap-tempo, but I rarely use it.
I do use it on the Line 6 HD500 and FloorPOD Plus at church.
Digital delays can be fun and add a nice touch, but like everything you have to take time learning how to use them and how not to use them.
