Just a gripe
« on: March 11, 2014, 04:20:44 PM »
MAAAAANNNNN!!!!!

So my Eden Wt800C blew up Sunday night during a concert! Talk about mad and upset!! I turned it on and immediately noticed a burning smell coming from it, and if I turned the volume past 12 o'clock, it would produce this loud squealing noise. So I turn it off, wait a minute, and turn it back on....problem seemed to go away. So I was thinking maybe it worked itself out, whatever it was. After like 20 mins, it happens again, only this time the smell is stronger. I reach back to shut it off, but before my hand gets to the switch, BAM..........it shuts off on its own (yall thought it went up in flames huh??? lol).

Anyways, I just wanted to tell somebody. BOTH of my amps need repair now, and I'll be stuck playing through the PA (bleh....). Pray for me yall, amp repairs are no joke.......

That's more than a gripe, bro.  A guy who used to play guitar at our church had a Vox AC30 that had been in and out of the shop on a few occasions.  Hope it all works out well for you.

I wish I was that skilled, otherwise I would, believe me. This bad boy is headed to the shop.

Something like this happened to my uncle's trace elliot amp. It was in the shop for awhile. Hope all goes well.

It happens I suppose. It was in my trunk for the duration of the drive to Philly (2.5 hours)...before that it was working flawlessly. Thanks bro!

I suppose it is lol. Vox's are really nice amps....there used to be a brother at our church who played through one. Thanks, I suspect it'll take a month or two total turnaround time.

More than likely, but only because of the weight and how much I've been traveling lately. The tone is to die for....can't go wrong with Eden. I'm going to get it fixed first....the WT800C is still one of the touring standards, and I should be able to sell it for $1100. The plan is to get either a TecAmp Puma 1000 or maybe on of the new MarkBass heads. My other amp is a Kustom KXB500...great tone, 500w, and it weighs like 3lbs I think. I did my stint with the high power, heavy weight heads....I'm done with 'em lol

You ever try a Genz Benz? Really nice heads.. yeah I know Fender closed the store.. but a lot of Genz folks are now working with Mesa ... and Fender is honoring warranties.. You might consider something like this GB SL600 $550 @ TB although the 900 would give you more headroom..  They are getting very hard to find though..
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

I FIXED IT GUYS!!!!!! Lol....

Turns out it was the fuse that was blown! So simple, yet I didn't even consider the fuse could've blown. Here's the funny part, I read half of a post on the fuse and took off the whole top cover of the amp trying to get to it:

Turns out the AC receptacle holds the fuse and two spares, all I had to do was pull the holder out with a flathead. Replaced the fuse and VOILA! Power and sound. While fixing it I found out what caused the fuse to blow in the first place....both the Bi-Amp and Bridge mode buttons were engaged, which is a big no-no.....as big as pouring water on your amp while it's turned on lol.

I'll pay more attention next time....

I love Genz Benz, and can't believe Fender shut it down, along with SWR. I hate the whole monopoly Fender is trying to create. If it would stop producing these replica and signature basses that nobody is buying, it wouldn't have to worry so much about competition or it's bottom line....

Honestly, if I can find another Shuttle 9.2, I'll get one. I didn't like the SL900 when I bought it, and sold it literally two months after I bought it. It was too tubey, if you can understand. I learned to play on Solid State heads, and a lot of my favorite bassist use Solid State, it's the tone I like. That said, I don't mind hybrids (i.e. the Eden lol).

It's my understanding that Jeff Genzler himself is the one who redesigned Fender's new Rumble amps, and at their price points I may replace my KXB with one:

In other news, I local custom tube amp builder wants me to be a tester for a new bass tube preamp he's developing. He's basing (no pun intended) off of Ampeg's tone stack, which should be pretty vicious. Paired with your choice of power amp it might sound pretty good. The only problem is finding a small form factor power amp....

Thanks for the good info on checking the fuse. I am just getting used to a new Ampeg PF500 lightweight and not sure if I can trust it completely just yet.

No problem man. I haven't heard bad things about the PF500's, and if they sound even remotely like the older SVT's and  BR's, I'm sure it sounds nice! I had an older B2r, and I LOVED the tone, but it was as heavy as my Eden, and was only putting out about 300w or so. I honestly might try out a PF800, just to see what it sounds like.
