Off d regular
« on: March 28, 2014, 01:50:06 PM »
I've been reading tons of piano stuffs from kid days and I approximated the concept to these:

using the number system
1 major
2 minor
3 minor
4 major
5 dominant
6 minor
7 half dim

Now these are the usually chords to be played on these scale tones,  although altered chords spice up the whole concept a little.

I wanna know for each pianist what exceptions u apply to your playing.

I thought 7 was diminished.

Its standard half dim or m7b5. You can use a dim7 chord here too. I do that mostly to the one.

e.g in the key of Db/C# its C-Eb-Gb-Bb

can be played as C/Bb-Eb-Gb

My exception on the 7th is to play a m9 chord here.

.....you can also play Ab/C or Ab 6/4 inversion in place of C diminished.
