Best Passive Bass Pickups?
« on: July 18, 2014, 05:51:36 PM »
I am thinking about getting some new passive P style pickups for my old ibanez gsr100 bass. Trying to get into modding a little. Also what difference do pots make?
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

I would not mod that bass... I am assuming you are talking about this one.

To tell you the truth you'd be better off trying to snatch up a Squire J or P rather than sinking anmy money into that bass. Changing ouit the post will get you nothing.
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Yep that's my bass. I have considered selling that one and getting another squier PJ or something off rondo.

I owned one of those basses, Mystery.  It played good and had a good tone.  The finish was nice.  I never thought of modding it.  I wonder if would much better for what it is after modding it.  I. Liked it, but I wanted a five string, and a true active bass.   I got an Ibanez 405 to noodle around on.  It is more comprehensive, but similar in many ways.

If you are just starting to get into modding, the Fender / Squier platform of instruments is probably the best place to start.  Tons of options.  Probably too many options, actually.  But part fit will likely not be too big a problem.

I do have one P-bass body that I'm having a heck of a time finding a neck that fits in the pocket.
