Acoustic Amps with Good Tone
« on: November 25, 2014, 09:01:12 AM »
I am learning to play the acoustic guitar. I am looking to purchase an acoustic amp that would sound well in a small venue. If anyone has played or demoed either of the following amps, I am interested in your feedback or opinion pertaining to which amp comes close replicating the acoustic tone of the guitar.

- UltraSound AG30 (Dean Markley)
- Behringer ULTRACOUSTIC ACX450
- Peavey E208
- Fender Acoustasonic 30 DSP

I played through the new Acoustic A20 but did not like the hissing sound through the speaker. Is the hissing sound considered some what normal to a degree?

Thank you.

Of all of those the only one I've tried is the Fender and it was nice for the price.
Yes, the his can be somewhat normal for an acoustic, but try rolling back the treble control to see if it lessens.

While I don't have direct experience with it, one of the guitar players at my church uses a Fishman Loudbox Artist.  There is also a smaller (60 watt) Loudbox Mini.  Seems well made and sounds pretty good too.

Thanks FunkStrat.. I read reviews about the Loudbox mini. Many gave it high ratings as well. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

Hey Guys, thanks for your input / feedback. I want to let you know i made my decision based on your input and after evaluating four acoustic amps in Guitar Center this past Sunday (11/30/14).

The first amp I connected to was the Fender Acoustasonic 90, which in my opinion has a nice colorful sound but not the clean tone i was looking for.

The second amp connected to was the Acoustic AG30 (Guitar Center), which sounded as if there was something wrong with the speaker, therefore I ruled it out immediately.

The third amp to which I made a connecting using a Breedlove (did not pay attention to the model) acoustic was the Fishman Loudbox Mini.  I was highly satisfied with the sound that resonated from this little (60w) box. Wow. Truly a great sounding acoustic amp.

The fourth and last amp was a Marshall AS50D (50W 2X8). In my opinion the tone that resonated from this amp was as clean and very close to the sound of the Loudbox Mini.

After evaluating these four amps my choice was the Fishman Loudbox Mini. The Marshall AS50D definitely is my second choice.

Thanks guys for taking time to help.
