This is Eugene Chandler at the WLGM SportsDesk with some highlights around the tournament =o). It’s the end of the 1st quarter and there are a couple of surprises but nothing out of the ordinary. No surprises for the number 1 & 2 seeds in each bracket as they have nice leads. However, you need to keep an eye out for these match-ups, they could go down the wire or even into overtime.
In the Caesar bracket, 13th seeded “Wonderboy” Johnson is upsetting Mary Mary, who is slated to be the favorite. Also 12th seeded Larry Trotter has a slight lead on Cece Winans. The SportsDesk will be watching these matchups closely.
In the Coley bracket, the Canton Spirituals find themselves behind 14th seeded J. Moss. As this game progresses, we’ll give you an update.
It’s all tied between Bobby Jones & Kiki Sheard in the Franklin bracket. Kiki, with tremendous skill and that awesome Moss-Clark background, Jones might be in for a good fight. Vicki Winans seem to be making easy work of 7th seeded Chicago Mass Choir. But CMC has been in the business a long time, so I don’t see them going down easy.
We have a couple of nail-biters in the Smallwood bracket as the Burrell-Armstrong, Adams-Wilson, & Spiritual QC’s-New Breed games are tied after the 1st quarter. A lot of these matchups are Old Skool-Nu School and the winner was not easily predicted as the other ones might have been. Also, keep an eye out for new gospel sensation Tye Tribbett & G.A. as they are giving 3rd seeded Georgia Mass Choir a real tough time.
How are your favorites doing? Any surprises you didn’t expect? Any outcomes you DID expect? Halftime should be exciting as these heavyweights go from the Spirit-filled 64 to the Throned 32!!
From the WLGM SportsDesk, Chandler Out!
