:D Yeah, i am that very drummer that played on the previous Sapp record. And it is always a pleasure to work wit my man Bond and Mike. 2 of the sweetest cats ull ever hear, And just a little historical fact Myself and Kevin have been knowing, and working with each other for 17 years non stop for "17 years!" and it's been nothing but a party. So i shared that to say this "Stop linking up with people that have "NO VISION!!!!!!!!!!!!!" because they'll always look out for themselves and not YOU!" get connected to someone or somthing progressive and invintive where ur voice musically and physically will be embraced and admirered. Thats!!! (My Fellow Drummers) HOW YOU CONTINUE WORKING!!!!!!!!!! 1Luv.

YO! who ever keeps asking me if im the real Jeremy Haynes stop asking because it's really me OK! "I have a computer too!" I enjoy what you guys are doing in here, i just found out about it so, it's really me "AIGHT!"
-
SO WHAT NEW PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
8O TIGHTEST GROOVE 8O
-
YO! who ever keeps asking me if im the real Jeremy Haynes stop asking because it's really me OK! "I have a computer too!" I enjoy what you guys are doing in here, i just found out about it so, it's really me "AIGHT!"
I watch part of that tape all the time when they show it on the Word Network. I like the way your snare sounded on that album with the clear head on it. I couldnt see if it was a pinstripe I just saw a clear had. I went out an bought a pinstripe trying to get the same sound but mine was popping like a firecracker. Which is not good because I could only use it for gospel not for jazz or smooth jazz or nothin.
-
Yo! fellas i'll answer both questions, Cool? 8)(1st) Ive been really busy cutting records, ive cut 4 records for the last 3or 4 months, and here they are in order. Darwin Hobbs(studio, release date sept. 27th) Marvin Sapp (trax#1,3,4,11 came out this week) Karen Clark- Sheard (live, release date in the Fall) and we just finished the new "New Birth Total Praise Record Today and it's "BLAZIN!" 8O :!:(studio, release date jan. of 2006) and still traveling doing shows and gigs around town, just trying to stay ahead of the game that's all  If any of u guys are interested ill be doing an out-door gig with some of the F.L.O.W. members the week of megafest (next week) at the Stone Crest Mall from 6-8 come hang out wit me, i think Bro.Gerald from Gospelchops.com is coming down to do a interview with me that day. So maybe ill see u there. :lol:And now the (2nd) question the snare i was using is a Yamaha Birch Absolute 6' 14inch and the drum head was a clear emporer, and i like how it makes the wood sound really full. So hope that helps you. Peace.
-
hey jeremy, i has a lil ? fo ya.....what is your current set up? as far as cymbals and drum dimensions go? also, do you play single or double pedal?
-
Yo!!! Drummercat. To answer your questions (1) If you go to my website at (jeremyhaynes.net) u'll see my set up. it's pretty much that all the time i'm cutting records. (2) No "I NEVER :x USE DOUBLE PEDALS!" i have this theory about double pedals - double pedals are cool when ur unable to accomplish with one foot everything you would like to do with 2 feet. So in layman's terms, "IT'S FOR CHEATERS!" :? because if you spend the time conditioning your foot, instead of always trying to play a bunch of chops (you'll never use anyway) u'll understand that it's not about your foot being fast, its about controling what u play with ur foot. So no i've never used a double pedal. My instructional video will cover all of what i just explained to you, so be on the look out for it. i'm confident that it will bless you. Peace.
-
(2nd) question the snare i was using is a Yamaha Birch Absolute 6' 14inch and the drum head was a clear emporer, and i like how it makes the wood sound really full. So hope that helps you. Peace.
In regards to using a clear emperor on the snare. What's type of tuning do you use?
-
Yoooooo! Soulnomad Sup Kid? 8) If you want to continue to use a clear emporer for your snare, then i suggest that yoooooouuuuu "WAIT FOR THE VIDEO, AND I'LL SHOW YOU THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CLEAR EMPORER & THE EMPORER X!!! :P :P :P :P " ,you thought i was going to give you my secrets huh OOOOOOOOOOH NOOO MY BROTHA!! U GOTTA WAIT ON DA VIDEO!!!!(LOL) just kiding my advice is that you tune it to whatever sounds good to you, never tune ur drums based on what other people think, "Who Cares What They Think!!" DO YOU!!!!!! :D
-
Yo, Jeremy - When is the video slated to be released?
-
:D :D :D :D Yes :) :) :) :) When will your Instructional DVD be Released :?: :?: I'm ready 8O 8O 8)
-
Fall' of 05' :D :?: What's the one thing you would ask me to help you with if we sat down right now :?: 1 thing!
-
I would want you to help me with doing/learning more advanced fills. What would u recommend for technique?
Cant wait for the video to Drop!
-
Mr.Haynes,How I develop a more Definate Bass Drum foot as far as Stamina,Power Speed and accuracy is Concerned(I guess that all falls under control)What exercises and/or routines do U recommend,For the hands the same questions. :D
Thanks
-
J's Reply 2 DJskins. First of all i would recommend listening to more/ different types of music with "Great" drummers playing, such as Dave Weckle, Will Kennedy, Bill Stewart cats like that, but dont just listen to what they're playing, also listen to the music that they're playing too. Only "Great" drummers consider the music first, and how he or she approaches it matters to the rest of the band and artist. So start there and just let your mind guide you, :) and the rest of your limbs will follow. "Dont Just Be A Drummer, Be A Musician!!!!" "Rhythm Is Life Yo!"
-
Well Mr keydrummer. Yes it all does fall under "Control" but your leg can get tired sometimes, i understand soooooooo...... :? I suggest to you and the rest of the drummers out there to spend time running, jogging, playing ball or any type running sport, because that will help condition your legs, and keep you healthy too. but as far as an excersice i would say spend atleast 15-20 mins a day 8O (or when ever you practice) on your feet alone, because your not using your feet to play the pedals anyway! your using your calf muscle and your ankle bone to play the foot pedal, and your using the ball of your foot or toes. Do that and you will see results. Peace. "Rhythm Is Life Yo!" :)
-
Your approach to new songs/grooves...
-
Yo Jeremy, just want to say that it's real cool of you to answer the birage of questions that you're getting from all the members here. Just hope that it doesn't get on your nerves too much seeing that you're a very busy drummer. Stayed Blessed. By the way, I have a raw cut of the Without Walls album you did and I'm still trying to do some of those nice licks you were doing (very tasteful). I also had the privilege of hearing your brother play at church and you guys are awesome. I may need you two to lay hands on me and impart some of the gift LOL. Just playing. Be cool "Yo".
-
Man its my pleasure to respond to these question, and NO! it is not getting on my nerves. :D Im happy to do it. See this is my theory I've done alot of stuff in my career and i've been fortunate enough to have people like Kevin Bond, Joel Smith, Will Kennedy, Dave Weckle, and soooooooooo many more people cross my path to encourage me, I feel its my obligation to my fellow levites to share any knowledge i can, and it's my job as a cheif levite to lead you in the right direction. Its just my way of giving back, "sowing a seed if you will". And if you ask anyone that knows me i always make time to talk to cats, and im very approachable, because i love the new wave of drummers that are springing up, matter a fact i remember Thomas Pridgen when he was 6 or 7 years old from GMWA his Mom was over the choir or something like that, :D i dont remember exactly, but whenever someone would get off the drums he would "get on" and start doing all his tricks (shout to Thomas) and trust me! he could do them like he was 16. And he never gave up, and because he had someone pouring into him, now! " DAT ***** IS SCARY 8O. But im very proud of him and what GOD! is doing in his life. So it is my duty as a PRO! to give you all the things the rest of the PRO"S won't take out the time to give you. "Somebody's got to take over when im done!" and its a whole bunch of ya'll that i could pass the batton to. But for now just sit back and watch the "Race" Peace.
-
Im not really a drummer, Im a keyboard player, Man I just wanna know how does it feel to be on stage with some of the best musicians in the world. Some of us may never get to experience that doc.
holla back at me
-
Well it used to be 8O SCARY! and very HUMBLING!
, and it still is a very humbling experience sometimes because you look at these cats, on stage with you, and you admire them and respect them so much it can be a tad bit overwhelming, but once you start playing and they're looking at you and smiling  it makes you feel like you matter. And just to know that they are looking at you the same way you look at them, with the same amount of respect, and admiration, it's really cool 8).And u guys are the next Joel Smiths, Kevin Bonds, Jonnie Dubose's, Aaron Lindsey's, Isreal Houghtons You are the generation to carry the torch and remember "To Whom Much Is Givin, Much Is Required!". So stay encouraged and prepared because you never know when it's your turn. "Rhythm Is Life Yo!" "And Timing Is Everything!"
-
First of all iwould like to thank u for taking the time to talk to us it really means a lot. My question is : how do u take what u practice and apply it to alive situation? Because I come up with some crazy ideas when no one is around but when I get around people (especially other drummers) it seems like I cant think of anything.
-
Welcome 2 the family and keep doin' it for God
-
Whas'up tKo, well to be blunt with you,(if i can :?) the reason you can't be creative is, your to busy thinking of what everyone else think's of what ur doing. Once and for all. To all the drummers that struggle with this hear me and hear me good! :x " "WHO CARES WHAT THEY THINK!!!!!" the only person you need to please with ur music is GOD!. I just returned this same type of :?: / e-mail last night to a young cat that's struggling with the same fear 8O, and i told him to "Get Over It!" people will always have somthing to say about ur playing. Noy to long ago their were a couple of young and immature drummers in the gospel drummer industry that you'all worship and slobber over had gone around telling other young drummers that "Jeremy anit got it no more he needs to hang it up and just retire!" do you believe that :? listen just because every record i do im not doing a bunch of crap(*%$#)all over the record does not mean i cant play, what it means is that im working for someone else at that time, "IT'S NOT MY RECORD!!". And do you think i let that stop me? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! if anything it made me realize that i was playing the right stuff, because when the records win Grammy, Stellar, and Dove awards, and when the albums go double and tripple platinum all over the world. And when cat's from Nigeria, London, Japan, Paris, and all over this world send me emails stating that the gift GOD! has given me has touched their lives, just through the way i approach a song, the tunning of my drums, and my finesse really inspires them to really dig into their instrument. And even all the love i've been getting from u guys on this forum, makes all the "HATERS" in the drum world talk about me even more so it's cool8). Even Jesus had Judas and look what happened to him. So let'em talk yo! It just means that their thinking about cha. :D "Rhythm Is Life Yo!"
-
jhaynes blazin the knowledge!!
good words bruh :!:
-
J, its good to see that you are still giving that wonderful same advice.
-
YO J! WHAT'S GOOD! I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU SHOWIN UR SUPPORT FO LGM. YOU WERE ON THE TONEX'S "OUT OF THE BOX" RECORDING RIGHT? WHAT WAS IT LIKE PLAYING IN THAT ATMOSPHERE? THANKS A BUNCH!
8O TIGHTEST GROOVE 8O
-
Yo! What'up TightestGroove? Well the footage you saw was from a different session that he was invited to be apart of. The record is the "Gospel Haritage" album that we did in 2002, thats why when you see it, the set looks different, and he's wearing a suit, and all the other things are different also. They shot it at New Birth. But it was cool, and he was real cool, 8) "NO EGO TRIP AT ALL!!!!!!!!" The album is "HOT" "Sput Seawright Yo! MY MAN!!!!!!! Smooth Cat 8) For Real!
-
Yo what up J this is Spider from (www.gospelchops.com). I talked to my boyee Gerald today and he is so excited it's a blessing to see the vision GOD gave him and how it's evolving into str8 MINISTRY----shout out to learngospelmusic.com as well ya'll doing the thang. I hope you 2 hit it off really well Saturday and you better not hold back neither (LOL). Anyways, man we gotta hook up yo for realz. Most of these are just now getting hip to you cuz of the major recordings you been doing but trust I got some underground jointz (Christopher Gray and NC MASS---He's All That (1994) you blazed all catz reading this need to pick that up. Then I was @ GMWA in LA when you smashed I COUNT IT THE COST (SMILE)...o yeah I am pulling them out. Dawg I was @ a workshop u blazed on in 91 out in Raleigh if I am not mistaken I couldn't remember the church name but it was off the chain. U were hittin the song @ the time was V. Michael McKay's "Come on In the Garden" (LOL). Holla @ me (spider@my2way.com) that's the 2way or home (rocketshells97@yahoo.com). I emulate your setup, style, I hate double bass pedal although I own one (bought it as a deal) and man try to blaze hard and punchy like you do. As soon as I hear that "pop beefy snare drum" and the kick drum as if you are using the PROMARK wood beater I know who is on the wood-n-skins! All you readers know what I'm talking about. Man the Marvin Sapp is just clowning for realz. WHEW and the Gospel Heritage you, Kev, Mike and Darrell ripped I guess ya'll had to show all the naysayers out there that "F.L.O.W can come out the woodshed and remind everyone who the band of life is." Man when I hit with Mike @ the Lady Judy McCallister concert out here in Oakland he was letting my boyee Tony Jones II and I hear the unedited version of "Lift The Saviour Up." When Kevin pulled off that crazy chord exchange on the vamp I was just throwin' up all over the place (LOL). Tonex's "Too Know You Lord" was sweet & jazzy too--that buzz shufled 16th note you do coming off the ride cymbal melodic roll was nice. For all you readers just trying to show you that musicians need to know a fellow musicians credits and credentials. Study who is hittin on what, the mobile company and live recording engineers all of that. I just read CD credits all day I know I ain't the only 1! (LOL) holla back anyone and everyone just choppin' it up with my SAVED family ya heard.
Spider----
-
Yo Spider79, I loved your lesson on gospelchops.com!!! Whew, blazin'!!!
-
Yeah yall..........pick up that new Marvin Sapp "Be Exalted" it's bananas!!!!!!! Jeremey Haynes is one of the cleeeeeenist drummers I've heard (and I've heard a lot!!) It's very encouraging to hear a professional like that have such a hunger for God/it's sad to say, but that's hard to find out here=THEY TIGHT=BUT THEY AIN'T SPIRIT FILLED.......so yall stay encouraged, keep sheddin' and keep His face.
ps=Nathaniel Townsend is another spirit filled drummer yall need to look up=HE'S BANANAS YALL!!!!!!!!1
-
spider79, i am with you, Jeremy was blazin even before the Christopher Gray, and might I add Greg Hoover. ( J, you remember that ) He was slammin wiht Shirley. One thing 4 sure, he has been rockin before now, and he will continue. It does not matter who comes along with the bag of tricks, trust and believe he has them as well. However he is one drummer that has been here, and will continue to be here.
-
Yo Spider you are the truth about them credits LOL. I dont even like burned cd's because I can't read the credits LOL. But on the Real KEVIN is the TRUTH. I mean that cat been around for a while but he still can hang. Man I got him 1st on my list because his changes are straight crazy and he is Anointed. Jeremy if you read this ask Kevin where my F.L.O.W DVD is LOL. If he dont hurry I will Side Kick him (Inside Joke everyone).
You all Be Blessed
Derrick
-
thankx fo rthe shout out j_kay and kaddw. Man speaking of which that Greg Hoover 1st albumn was str8 bananas. WHEW thankx for the reminder I have to find that albumn put it back in the repotoire. I don't know about ya'll but I was watching MEGAFEST live this afternoon on TBN and my GOD the anointing must have showed up on my couch in the living room. WHEW Bishop Jakes spoke some prophecy today--"GOD'S GOING TO TURN IT AROUND IN THE MIDST OF YOUR ADVERSARIES". Just wanted to share that with everyone. A.L. Jinwright was a hot albumn Jeremy was blazin on. I was listening to Rodnie Bryant--the joint called "Great Things" written by Darius Brooks originally recorded by the late Rev. Milton Brunson and the Thompson Community Choir (Before they were the TOMMIES). Oh yeah most defnitely a F.L.O.W dvd or live performance ain't bad. There are some starving LEVITES waiting to see that and I am one of them. Stay up and blessed every1
-
It is done... :D
Much love to Bro. Jeremy for sharing his time, skill, and experience with me in the ATL!(wish I had more time) I had a wonderful time and I'll be going back to catch F.L.O.W., Ron James, Justin Gilbert, and more. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE ATL! These cats are the truth. Jeremy, check your email. I'll call you to schedule my next visit. May God continue to bless and annoint you.
God Bless,
Gerald
-
mr. haynes... first of all congrats on your acomplishments.. i pray that GOd will give yo many more...

Godbless.
-octopus
-
jeremy man i been listenin to you since bible stories, had the honor to play with ya brother in ohio at the college of wooster... and had the even more blessed honor of meeting u at the gospel heritage event at new birth you guys were jammin around vibin off jonathon on guitar man it was crazy just to stand there! but i had a question bein a drummer first then bass player second how does it feel to play along side some of the greatest bass players in gospel such as fitz and joel??? and my favorite of them all darrell id be jumpin off my seat hearing some of the things they do... how do you manage to keep your cool? what advice can you give on the drummer bass player connection?
-
Jeremy, I finally got the chance to purchase the latest Marvin Sapp CD, "Be Exalted" on yesterday. All I can say is that God has placed a tremendous gift into your life. I am glad that you are able to impart that gift to bless me and others!
I love the first track (blazin') and the title track (puts you in His presence - you also "smashed" that fill). I didn't get to listen to the entire CD, but the few tracks that I did get to listen to is on point!
-
Yo! Octopus 8O The snare i use is a 6' 14inch yamaha steel shell snare, and a 6' 14inch pearl steel shell, and for ballads i use the 5' 14inch yamaha absolute beech custom wood shell. so there you have it. my snare set up,
-
 YO! YO! Ksmithburner5 It's always a pleasure to play with "great" bass players such as Reese, Joel, and T. Palmer but my favorite player right now is D"FREE!"(Darrell Freeman) he's scary yo!8O but the most important thing about playing with Darrell is having a "RELATIONSHIP!" with each other outside of music, and that's what makes playing together "FUN!" :o because when you spend time with cats on a personal level, you begin to play the language you speak cause you know them beyond the music. So i admonish AAAAAAAALL musicians to develope relationships with cats that you work with, even cats that dont live in the same city, reguardless the language is still the same. So that when your playing with the Pro's you fit right in, and then they respect you and what you have to say, when you sit down and play. So it's always FUN! :D But it's more valuble when you can call them "Friend"
-
J_Kay! my man. Thanx Bro. I appreciate your kind words. But I'm learning now that ministering through drums can be a powerful way of deliverence as well.A couple of weeks ago I recieved an e-mail from a fellow levite stating and (i quote) "That when I listens to you play the "spirit of depression" :evil leaves my mind and heart, and I feel like living again!" "THAT'S POWERFUL!" so i'm obligated to remain consistant with my ministry, and not clutter the music with a bunch of "crap" that is distracting to the F.L.O.W. of GOD! and what HE! wants to DO! as HE! plays through me. So that's why it sounds anointed and not just another good sounding record. My hat goes off to Bro. Isreal Houghton, and Aaron Lindsey for the "GREAT!" job they did producing their share of the record it was "My Pleasure" to do it with them. And I pray that GOD! is pleased with my interpretation of how grateful i am that he has chosen me to walk along and beside him through the gift and the anointing of playing drums and please believe "I AM GREATEFUL LORD JESUS, AND I DO NOT TAKE IT LIGHTLY!" ALL GLORY AND HONOR BELONGS TO GOD!" :D "Rhythm Is Life Yo!"
-
Sup Jeremy...man I really enjoy your playin. My favorite of your performances is the Donald Lawerence "bible stories" video. Man you were fiyah! Your pocket was extremely tight. I wanted to know how you tuned your toms, whehter you tuned them to specific intervals or not? And what snare did you use and the head that was on it?
-
what up jeremy i wrote you but i posted it in the post for drummers representing St Louis..my user is D-Nice
one
-
was that really Jeremy Haynes?? If so i just heard that one of the guys i grew up listening to is his brother...And thats crazy its a small world
-
My man InThePocket "I Like That Name Yo! Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan Try-City days HuH!!!!!! 8O well i tend to tune my drums in 3rd's all the way around, but when im doing jazz gigs my first tom is usually tuned higher than the other ones (jazz set-up is 2 10' inch toms and my 14' inch on legs), but for sessions you can go to my website at jeremyhaynes.net and see my studio set-up. And theirs also some music from my up coming CD on the "Home" page and my "Favorite Drummers" page u have to wait a couple of seconds but it's woth the wait "I Promise!" And as far as the snare heads i was using a coated pinstripe, but not anymooooooore :D it's all about the emporer X now. Go get one u'll Love It. Holla! 8)
-
Jeremy, all I can say is that the new Marvin Sapp album was really a blessing. You really shows what it means to be a modern day minstrel. The I can't even start to imagine what's it like to work with Isreal and Aaron, but my question is what was it like working with Javier Solis? I have both the Isreal and Cece Winans dvd and this cat seems to have such a percussive mind.
-

Jeremy man i had the priviledge to pick up the new Marvin Sapp Album and i must say the musicianship on this album is awesome the message thru song is awesome...my favorite has to be Be Exhalted. I remember a few months ago Jonathan Dunn had a live concert at our church here in Ohio and he was saying how Marvin would have a couple songs on his album that he wrote.....I was hoping that it would be that one and it was! man you guys blessed that song and are truly an inspiration to me and to gospel music.... ive had the honor to play with aaron lindsay wayyyy back in the day.....how was it to be in the studio atmosphere with such a blessed musician as he?

The 12" hi-hats that you mentined - are they the A Custom Mastersound model?
-
The 12" hi-hats that you mentined - are they the A Custom Mastersound model?
Or are they the Special Recording hats?
.... I am partial to 12" hats, (I use the AA Mini Hats from the other Ziljian brother, LOL.) And I must say the Special Recording have a smoother sound. than mine.
-
Do they even make the S.R.s anymore? I haven't seen those in a while. Do you use them main hats, SabianKnight?
The A Custom Mastersound (12") sound pretty smooth, as well.
-
Yo Jeremy,
Thanks for being a true professional--courteous and responsive to the various questions that are coming your way. I wished that more of the professional musicians within Gospel music had your patience and personality. You are a true inspiration and God is blessing you for it--from the O'Neal twins to Israel H. and the various artists in between. Continue to allow the Lord to bless you. Peace.

Yes I use the 12" AA Mini Hats as my man hats. And they sound great recorded. Like a hot knife thru butta'....
These are the same model hats that John Blackwell use back in 2000 Modern Drummer cover days. Prince's Hit and Run Tour, Rainbow Children as well as on his own DVD. John also had a set of 10" AA Minis mounted on an x-hat on his left above the 12"s back then.
I an wanting to get a hold of those. The drummer at NDCC uses a pair on an x-hat on the right-side.

God Bless jhayes i saw you on gospelchops.com and i think everyone agrees with me that the words you said touched my soul. because as a musician its frustrating a lot. You try to get better and practice to the break of dawn and you try to reach that level, but you find your self stuck, but something you said that made an impact to me, is that to put God above all things and that made me realize above my instrument too, God has to be above that, so God could flow through me. I'm glad that you are an open person and willing to teach, you're a rabi for musicians not only drums but for all.
Keep walking in the lord and God bless the talent he has given you.

Jeremy I know you here it all the time but I gotta tellya, I just loved your clip on Gospel Chops. You are definitely to the King of pocket. I think that your feel for music is absolutely what makes your groove so tight. You can fill a song totally, without being too busy and most of all; the cleanest and most precise, timely fills. I would love to see you live, please let me know if you come anywhere near NC.
-
I know you are probably on the road but if you happen to get my previous post, I would really appreciate it if you would email me and let me know when you are going to be anywhere near NC. My email address is gsscott26@yahoo.com.

yo dr. haynes, :D
i am just writing to say thank you for being humble and open enough to come in here and communicate with us. it is great to see some true humility from someone who is as accomplished as you.
i mean, there are some cats who just play in churches who don't have that level of humility. and i doubt too many others in your "bracket" would take the time and care to do this.
thanks again for being an example,
freddyfusion
