I am always getting ask to play something for someone, I usually play  Portrait of Tracey by Jaco My question is what do other bass players play when ask to play a solo unaccompanied.

Never had to do a complete song going solo. I guess it would be nice to do, but I just don't have to time to transcribe lead vocals to bass, basslines are hard enough.

...ARE THEY ACTUALLY ASKING YOU TO PLAY A SOLO MELODY ON THE BASS OR ARE THEY ASKING YOU TO GO OFF WITH SOME STUFF BY YOURSELF?

They are asking me to go  off, with just a really nice grove or something like it.

..I  USUALY REVERT TO SOME E OR A FUNK...THEN THROW IN A FEW HIGH ON THE NECK RIFFS...THAT USUALLY WOWS FOLKS...PEOPLE LIKE FUNKY STUFF! 8O
