I definitely do the shoes off. It's just more comfotable for me.

You shoes-off guys are weird! Everyone I know plays with their shoes on...except a few ladies.
It's easier for me to play with my shoes on. If I try to play without them, I'll be slipping all over the place, and it's just nasty to play barefoot, in my opinion.

you trying to dis us barefoot guys! all ya gotta do is stick odor eaters on the pedals, and you're on the money!!!
No, I just play in socks. I have narrow feet, and it works great for me. Besides, I play a C3 and unless I decide to make a back cover that does go to the floor, nobody knows!! :D :D :D :D
Last night I played chromatic scale on the pedals at 132!!

I just started and I think that walking bass as much easier with shoes off. So for church service at my home church to eliminate mess ups, I do shoes off and I try to practice with shoes on, to get that professional look when we go visit else where.

Hello From Philly:
For all of the musicians that like to use the pedals with no shoes (including myself), just a bit of advice. NEVER GO BAREFOOT!! I had a bad experience playing barefoot. We went to minister at a church out of state -- it was summertime - hot, so i wore sandals (no stockings/socks). A few weeks later my left foot started itching and the skin began to crack -- I CAUGHT A FOOT FUNGUS!! I still play without shoes, but if it's in the summertime, i wear footies and/or socks.
-
shoes on, it feels more comfortable to me, and i dont want people to know if i have holes in my socks
-
I play with shoes off. I'm still a novice with pedals but I've tried with shoes on and I can't because I can't feel my foot hitting the pedal. I don't wanna spend money on special shoes either. We also have a C3 so no one see's my feet anyway. I always wear socks because, it just seems rather inapropriate to be barefoot in church, lol. Everyone that plays the organ at my church plays with their shoes off.
-
I play with shoes on. I tryed playing without shoes. IF HURTS LIKE  . Juss kidinng. But I found that you can slide better with shoes on. No matter what kind or shoe. And I think that you can play higher on the pedals with shoes on. Probably juss me.
-
With me it depends. I usually play shoes on. But when I go to other churches I seem to play the pedals with my hands (primarily because I'm pulling up stuck pedals =o)
-
I play with my shoes on. I mainly play in casual dress shoes, dress shoes with a pointed toe, or timberland boots. I can't play with my shoes off.
-
somethimes I play with shoes off , but just when J play on pipe organ i church :)
on Hammond J usualy don't play on pedal becouse we have bass in band

LOL.... You are SOOOO wrong for that one!!! ROTFLMBO

I play both ways but mainly shoes on

SHOES ON.
WHEN I FIRST STARTED I PLAYED SHOES OFF BECAUSE I WASNT USED TO PLAYING PEDALS. EVENTUALLY I JUST GOT ON ONE DAY AND FORGOT TO TAKE MY SHOES OFF AND THE REST IS HISTORY. BESIDES, THE CHOIR SAYS THAT MY FEET STINK. WHICH THEY DO. SO I DID THEM ALL A FAVOR BY KEEPING MY SHOES ON. BE BLESSED!!!!!!!
-
Only if my heels are too high.
-
both.. depends on what im playin.
-
I've been trying the toe socks and it's workin'
-
I play with my shoes on. Just in case I need to get-up and do something or maybe play the keys. I like to be mobile anyway. If you wear loafers then it's cool. But lace-up dress shoes prevent a quick exit or hinder my mobility if their off. So, I'm shoes on.
To each his/her own.

Sometimes, the other organist at our church plays with her left shoe off but generally, she keeps them on. I played without my left shoe only once, but the reason happened to be that I was wearing these really big boots and they were hitting more than one pedal at once and it was really annoying, so one sunday, i just could not do it. I've never done it since then. I just don't see it as comfortable. I see it as feeling wierd to my feet. Even wierder, my church has a B3, so while the church watches you playing the organ without shoes...anyway, if you feel comfortable with no shoes, don't wear shoes. But people come to church and take their shoes off, so does it matter if you're on the organ?
-
I play with my shoes on ( more likely boots) i am slow with out my shoes and i cant heel toe right
-
I play with my shoes on and I luv playin' in Timbs. Heel, toe, heel, toe, heel, toe.
-
my shoes are TOO BIG i wind up hitting two pedals at once.
Especially at my home church in Jamaica Queens NY The
pedals are too small.
-
Shoes off. When I first started playing, I always took my shoes off because I have big feet and it's easier to feel where the pedals are without looking. So I kind of stuck with it and I still can barely play them with shoes on.
-
Shoes on,
I used to play with them off cause I thought my feet were too big. Then I started experimenting with foot/leg techniques. Hey muzicmann, Tims aren't to heavy for you? Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't.

I use to swear by playing with my shoes off when I first started playing pedals. One day I was talking to a pipe organist who introduced me to www.organmastershoes.com. This is the best kept secret for us hammond church organist. Buy you a pair of these. Yall be Blessed.
