I am about to buy my own snare and am stuck between the Yamaha Steve Jordan (6.5x13), Yamaha Akira Jimbo(7x13 and with the wood hoops replaced with steel, Yamaha Musashi(6.5x12)(6.5x13), and Pearl soprano (7x12). Has any one played these? How do they sound? What's the best choice? I need some good opinions and advice to help me choose!!!

What sound are you looking for? I can build you a custom drum and maybe even save you some $$$ compared to some of these guys. Let me know what you are looking for....

what up?
Those all are good snares out of the 3 of them In my opinion the 13x6.5 "Musashi" is the best. Also the Pearl "Omar Hakim" 13x5 is a hot snare. :D

Same here. The only problem I wouldn't be able to build a 14" yet. B/c of the custom hickory I'm buying but you would probably be better off going with Zilpex's materail.

I think all these snares are wonderfull.
I think the Steve Jordan snare is the most versatile. It's warm but has a great crack. I like a drum that's warm and with much crack. They have to be deep and then crank it up. I'm still finding out if LaDell abrams plays this snare on the latest live DVD of CeCe Winans. It sounded great!!
Don''t about the Musashi (6.5 x 13) snare. But it's gonna be LOUD. I don't know if it's warm enough and I read that it rings abit more. If your out for this then it's a great choice. Plus the price isn't too high. Oscar Seaton was playing this snare when he was in Holland with George Benson. It's easy to tell because of the red logo on it.
A friend of mine plays the 7 x 12 Pearl snare and man...It has some much crack and depth. A great snare... DOn't know if it's versatile enough. For RnB, Funk, Gospel this snare is great....Well if you have a main snare already then I would go for this one. If not, then the other ones are great because of their versatility and you can use them for alot more applications.
Well, it's a hard choice and I'm with the same problem as you. I'm thinking about buying these snares too!!! Hard choice!!!
Let me know what you're gonna deciced?
Peace from Holland!
