I have a small home studio problem. I went out to guitar center and picked up a 16 Channel Yamaha mixer, and a M-Audio Mobile Pre USB(http://m-audio.com/products/en_us/MobilePreUSB-main.html). My desire is to just over-dub everything to make a song. The Mobile pre has a couple of inputs but I just use the stereo input to record drums because I set all the levels and do panning with my new mixer.
I've been recording alot and I've noticed nothing sounds natural because their is a small, but very noticable delay in my mixes. I no I don't have the fastest computer but why is this happening? I play everything to a metronome. Even when my vocalists come over, their singing is delayed when they are singing to a track! What could be going wrong here? Their is supposed to be ZERO latency. someone help please!

...be sure that you are monitoing out of the same sound card you are recording on.....also make sure the in an output designations on your recording programare set to the sound card and not to anything else.

I AGREE WITH MY BOY URICH WITH THAT...JUST CURIOUS THO...

for my videoes i use an echo gina soundcard and a web cam...for tracks I have a yamaha ex7 workstation and cool edit pro to record audio. I also have cubase...but rarely use it.

The EX7 is a sweet board! Wish I had the money :? And I can't stand Cubase but I have 2 versions of it   I use my DV camcorder with WinDVD Creator, Windows Movie Maker or Vegas for video and Sonar, Reason and even Hip Hop EJay for Sequencing and Soundforge for final mix for audio which is a nice program too... :D

Are you using USB 1.1 or 2.0?
Depending on how you're hooking up the M-Audio interface to your computer, it could cause latency. If you're using the audio outs, then your sound card could be causing it, if it's just a standard card.
I made a post earlier with links to other forums that talk about latency problems specifically. Usually it's just substandard equipment or tweaking the delay setting in your recording software.

here's the thing. The sound card in my computer DOES NOT WORK. Could that be causing the latency problem? When you plug the M-Audio interface in through the USB port, which is really an external sound card, the computer automatically uses it as its primary audio device. Their isn't even an option for my broken sound car in the tower, its like its not thier. Help me out.

any ideas?

what recording program do you use?..for example...i use sonar and cool edit pro 2

Hello,
I know what you are running. Now could you tell me exactly how you have everything wired up together and I'd be happy to have a remedy for your situation.......
God Bless You,

I appreciate the help. I've stopped recording because this problem is bugging me.
Okay, first off, my onboard soundcard does not work. Which is why the M-Audio Mobile Pre acts as an external soundcard. I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem. The m-audio interface(external soundcard) is powered completely by the USB bus from my computer.
I am using Cool Edit Pro 2.
Okay, I have my piano hooked up to channel 1 on my board. Then, I run a "RCA to 1/8" inch jack" from the rca "rec out" on my board, TO the M-audio interface's stereo 1/8" input.
I use the headphone output on the interface for playback.
Thanks guys.

You are such a blessing to go out of your way like that. I truly appreciate your help. I haven't tried this yet but I will.

..you are welcome...I just hope it works

I'm using Sound Blaster card. Works well. Sometime it can be the type of card you use which might not work with some programs. Then it might be laticeny. I have Sonar 3 & 4 and I have that problem when I use Sonar 4. I have the sound card coming & going to my Tascam TMD1000 mixer. Also see if there is a plug in or a patch for your card. Don't give up you might have to try other cards to get the right sound.

It was a "buffer configuration" problem.
FIXED! thanks guys!
