Thats how its supposed 2 be done. If you dont do it with your feet then you should just play a keyboard

Yea, the pedals provide you sub bass and adds fullness. I thought that I was supposed to play them as well, I have been doing it or13 years...  I was under the impression that was the essence of the shout...

OKAY.... let me make sure I understand what is being said here.

You all play the bass line for shout music with your feet...  not with your hands on the low end of the keys?!?!

Dare I say.... WHOAH...  You all need to pray that a brother get some fast feet like y'all.....  WOW!!!

I aint even gonna lie....I tried playin with the foot pedals, and i kinda got the hang of it..but on the shout......I can kiss that good-bye  I think i'll figure it out soon though

i don't know how.  and especially not in a key like Ab, because my foot will not go past B.  I use my left foot, and anything past B is TOO far!

I just use my left hand to play bass, then again, we don't have special shouting music.  we go with the timing of the song we just sang, and we do whatever.  as far as the bass pedals are concerned, i can just keep hitting Ab (or whatever key the song is in)--staccato like.

Practice Practice Practice for all those who said they cant shout with their feet. Its the only way you will learn. You should also learn to b able to cross ya legs when playin higher notes on the pedal board. (I can go up to F without a problem.) Key word here is Practice

i really don't have time to practice bass pedaling b/c i never have time to practice on a real organ.  i only have my keyboard at home.

I am the same way, I can't practice on the organ enough to play w/ my foot.  I wish I could though.

i just got the hang of even using the pedals in the first place, but i don't know them well enough not to look down every so often, and a lot of times, i find myself hitting the wrong pedals.  half the time, the only reason i use the pedals is b/c i feel out of place not doing so.  otherwise, i wouldn't be bothered with them.

I would play with the pedals but I be getting tired I can do 1 base line then the shouting music seems to get slower

When using the pedals (especially during shouting music) use the heal of foot on the naturals (white notes) and your toe on the sharps and flats (black notes).  Practice this slowly and gradually speed up.  Eventually you'll be the tempo of shouting music.

I used to run my foot over the pedals when the volume was of to practice using them when I wasn't playing.

If you guys are M.O.Ms or assistants, you may want to see about getting a set of keys to your church so that you can practice and master the organ you play on every week.  That's the only reason why I am an organist now.  And you all know that there's a big difference in $$$ earned when you can play organ as well as keys.  Keep practicing......I know I am.

you know, i don't think it is something major if you can play shouting music or not.  like me, if i'm in a situation where it calls for shouting music and there's another organist who can play it, i move over and let them have it.

Not trying to offend anyone but there is no specific "shouting music" chords or techniques. All it is is chords played to a sped up beat with whatever bassline you want.  I heard Timothy Wright's sons do the intro to Jay Z's "Hovey Baby" during a shout and it was off the hook.  Tye tribbett's shout is way far from normal but its hot.  And "tradiotnal" shouting music chords are nothing different than what you would play during a normal devotional/praise service, just faster.  So, in essence, everybody can play Shouting Music

that's great for me!  b/c when someone else can play all those chords (i can't) i will move over and let them have it!  but if there aren't any chords, i can play it.  thanks for telling me that (i never knew).

one chord i like to play no matter what in the key of Ab is:

F#-C-Eb-F

I have no idea what chord this is but is sounds good to me.

Musician_Organist, next time you play that chord, take the Eb out and try it like this:

F#-Bb-C-F

Now you can interchange the two togive yourself a different sound when the time calls for it.

Another thing that could help out many of those who cant play the full bassline for a shout is that you can play a 5-1 in the bass
e.g. Eb-Ab
Or you can also play the last four notes of the bass line
e.g.
F
F#
G
Ab
like that and it will still sound pretty full or you can play the bass with your hand n foot because for some people wat ever a certain hand can do the foot can do as well. So you can use your hand 2 help speed up your foot :D

Try playing half-time during certain parts of your shouting music until you get it.

Another one to do is the bassline to Michael Jackson's Billy Jean on top of the drum rythym off of Tye Tribbets shout.  Mad Hot
