Title: Please HElp Me Ya'll!!!
Post by: rockwilderman23 on January 02, 2004, 01:44:28 AM
wasup ya'll mah name is Greg and i'm 18. I have been playin for 4 years and i am self taught. Everyone that hears me play tell me that it does not sound like i've been playin for 3 years becuz my chords are so advanced. But there is one BIG problem :(  I think that i skipped a step when i was learning how to play becuz i dont seem to have the coordination to do any runs and keep playin with my left hand. And i am not that good   with the pedals. When i play at church sometimes i get really nervous and i forget chords and i mess up badly. I even mess up on one note chords. For example, the intro to "Holy Place" by Ricky Dillard. I even mess up on that when i'm not nervous. Its jus that i cant seem to get those notes right. Can ya'll tell me what i can do about my situation because i am seriously thinkin bout quittin. :(

Look, I'm only 15 and it gets hard for me too, but you have to keep your faith in GOD.  Don't throw away the gift that GOD has given you.  You may regret it for the rest of your life.  I may not have the answer to your problem, but when you said that you were thinking about quitting, thats when I began to have a problem.  Keep your head up brotha.  It'll be a'ight!!!!!!

My name is Shannon.I am 20 years old.I learned how to play in the 4th grade.I been playing at my church for 2 years.A lot of people are amazed how I play.I can play with the pedals on the songs that I know the bass, but otherwise I play straight chords.I don't know how to play in every key.So don't give up and don't quit. This is a gift that God gave to you don't throw it away.As far as runs go I'm really good with those. So I will help you.

All musicians have flaws to be honest. We can even be perfect in everyone else's eyes, but no matter how advanced we get, we will never be satisfied with how we play. Maybe I can't speak for everyone, but at least I know that is how I feel. I have been playing for 4 years but I just started playing in church services for about a year and a half. I'm only 19 and it gets really frustrating for me too; especially, being a young female and an amatuer on the organ. I know by now that it is getting redundant, but you cannot give up! Ever! I know I won't!

 If I lose my fingers, I swear, I 'll find a way to play with my elbows or something!   If we give up, GOD'll give our gifts to someone else who wishes that they could play half as good as we do just so He can keep on getting His glory.

So I encourage you stay strong. "Remember that although I may have your back, God's got you covered!"

I am just learning how to play and With all the encoragement that you have been given it inspires me to continue, it should let you know that there isn't a word call quit for a person that has God on their side.  It's times that I have felt like giving up, but it something I want to do and something I enjoyI feel so happy when I try to play a melody and can get it just by hit and miss.  We are working for a God who has your "cover" :D  No matter what!!! None of us are perfect, Keep on pressing for that higher calling the one that God called you tooo!!!!

Whats up man how are you doing my name is jlessie and i have been playing for a little bit more than 4 years now and quiting is not even in my vocabulary when it comes to playing the the organ & piano.  Check it out I have the answer to all your problems. You say that you get nervous when you get up to play a song.  Here Is the remedy,  that same song that you said you forget the notes to, on your spare time at home or when ever, practice that song until you know it backward and forwards.  Listen you ought to practice that song so much that you get tired of listening to it.  I garuntee when you play you won't mess up. And another thing messing up is not the end of the world,  and that's your problem when you get up to play thats what you think about what if I mess up, try thinking what if I play all the notes right.  Playing is supposed to be fun when you get to play have fun.

Sounds like you are a little discourage cause you think you ought to be at a certain level and you are not..and you are upset cause you feel like you skip a step..you didn't skip a step ..it will come..in learning to play music one must disciple therm selves and have plenty of patience and last the must love music.  Iam a self taught person and have been playing over l0years and you will get things feeling, its nothing but, the trick of the enemy and you feel like u have no hope. Maybe God isn't really for you to do the runs yet..maybe he just want u to trot..have u did the strenghening scales..in every key..practice on them..they will strenghen your fingers..you will be surprise..this is preperations to do runs..i can't do them well either..but, it doesn't bother me either..each student progress at different speeds.  Every time i would get stuck in something..God would send me someone to help me..get unstuck..you will have no testimony if you don't hang in there..i play classics,, hyms..etc and i played for 2 choirs..and this is before i learned how to read sheet music..cause i could hear music,,but didn't kow what notes to play..thats because i hadn't learned my notes or chords well,,now,,when i play..if i forget to play the next chord..my fingers will remember them and i won't be embassreess..remember this isn't done over night..talents developed into gifts and when a person had no gift the practice and training is there..and u get so good..when people hear u they say o..he is really gifted..u must hang in there..to see what the end will be. Play alot n front of people that u don't feel nevous in front of and u will overcome this..and remember to pray.  Bless ya. :P
