Post by: XtromatriX on September 26, 2005, 09:48:08 PM
I'm learning a song called "Jesus Promised" By Chicaho Mass Choir, the bass player playes notes even lower than the low B on that song. I was wondetring does anyone here tune down that low B sometimes for some songs?

you really want a good bass with a tight b string to tune down like that, orthervwise it can get a little flabby. i tune down occasionally, you get a nice spongy feel and can really dig into the strings.  try it you might like it.

I loosen the b string down about 4 frets for the song, It's My Time by Excelsior.  There's a consistant slide away from the note.  If I know ahead of time that the song is coming, like a minute or two, I'd tune down for slide space.

You could get a HipShot bass X-tender key to replace your B string tuner.  Depending on how you set it up, you can probably go all the way down to F# if you want.
