Post by: Groovesmith on September 29, 2005, 12:15:14 PM
Just wanted to know if any of you guys and gals use a metronome to practice and what kind of tuner to you use I have this little korg tuner it cost bout 20 bucks canadian but alot of the bassplayers I know use the expensive model of korg tuner but for what reason i dont know this tuner I have can tune my five string but the tuner I had before another korg couldnt.  And if you all do use a metronome what kind do you use.

I think my tuner cost about $20 or less.  The same goes for my metronome.  Both electronic, but fulfills its purpose and still works since 2000.  I can't recall the brand name though.

Grovesmith- I believe your tuner is the one that I used to have, great tuner I paid $16for that. I gave it away when I got a tuner/metronome in one. It's a $25 Ibanez and I love it, it's a chromatic tuner so it tunes everything.

I have a Korg tuner and I use a drum machine in place of a metronome.  From my finding, the Korg tuner does a pretty good job but my instructor showed me that when you are changing registers (playing in the higher ranges) the tuning can get a little off.  He recommended learning to tune by ear using harmonics.  I've found this to be pretty accurate.  Some of the more expensive tuners tend to be more accurate.

the tuning off in the higher registers is more likely due to the bridge needs adjusting. which can be adjusted with the aid of a tuner

I have a little Korg tuner and metronome.

I plan to get the more expensive one, like you said. My Korg tuner and metronome don't have an output to pass the sound through.

What do you guys think about floor tuners? The one you have to step on I want to get a new tuner and cant decide on what to get.  I would love to get one of the tuners they have at music stores the wall mount ones that would be phat!
