I just want to give a shout out and thanks to Uriah, B3 and everryone else who have contributed to LGM. I played my first service at my church yesterday and I couldnt have done it without you guys. I've learned a lot from this site. Keep it up. God bless you.

That is awesome. I am curious though, how long you been playing for??
-
I've owned my bass for about 7 months, but i just really started practicing and trying to learn about 4-5 months ago. before that, i would just mess around on it every now and then. i'm starting from scratch (no previous instrument or musical training of any kind) so i'm getting a lot from this site.

WOWZER...THAT IS SO GREAT...HOW DID IT GO...TELL US ABOUT IT!

Well, like I said, this was my first service playing the bass. I mostly stayed in the pocket because I didn't want to get too far ahead of myself or my playing level. I was mainly just trying to get comfortable playing. I guess I did alright. I received a lot of encouragement from everyone. Again, I just want to thank everyone on this site who's contributing their time and knowledge.

Where else better to get your feet wet, then your home church.

i need details!!!!
here are some questions!
WAS THE MUSIC PRE-REHEARSED OR DID YOU HAVE FLOW AS YOU GO?
DID YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW A CRAZY ORGANIST WHO WOULDNT GET OFF OF THE BASS PEDALS?
WAS THERE A DRUMMER...THE DRUMMER KNOWS THE TRUTH!...WHAT DID YOUR DRUMMER SAY TO YOU?
WERE THEY SONGS YOU KNEW....WHAT DID YOU DO FOR PARTS YOU DIDNT KNOW?
DEEEEETALS...i NEED DEEEETAILS.

Man, you're tough Uriah. :D Well, we have a drummer and an organ player. They both thought it was pretty good. The organ player let me have it for the most part, but he did step in a couple of times just to get me on track. It was mostly praise and worship songs that i was pretty familiar with. If a part came up that I really didn't know I just tried to throw something in there. I admit, most of the service was your bass run 1 and 2, but I did try to improvise a little bit. I think the hardest part was actually playing the WHOLE service. When I practice, i stop if I get tired. Couldn't do that on Sunday. :) But it was a good learning experience and I hope to only get better. I'll keep you up on how it's going.

NOW THATS DETAIL!...I FEEL LIKE I WAS THERE!.....YOU SEE I AM AWARE THAT I HAVE AN IMPACT ON PEOPLES LIVES....BUT I RARELY GET THE DETAILS!.......IT'S LIKE EVERYONE WHO HAS LEARNED FROM ME IS MY VERY OWN CHILD...AND I WANT TO KNOW HOW THEY ARE DOING.....
THAT WAS GREAT...I AM SOOOOOOOOOO PROUD TO HAVE HELPED YOU GET THERE!
SNIFFLE SNIFFLE...

that's cool JMack!! ... I use Uriah's runs often, like his chording in run #6 and his chord slides in run #7. I also used his bass run 6 chording in my post for the BASS OFF in group 3.
To help build your dexterity, be sure to practice daily for at least an hour straight. I remember when I couldn't hang. But discipline and consistency will go a long way.

thanks for that post Jmack...
I have been playing for a little less than 7 months as well. My first time playing during service will be the week after next. I spend alot of time on this site attempting to learn, I do more lurking than anything else.
I'm happy to hear that all went well for you JMACK, and I would also like to extend my gratitude to all the brother's and sister's who spend their time and effort helping newbies like myself, and Jmack.
thanks

Torch .. congrats on playing in service soon! You'll do just fine. :) Just keep your mind on the Lord while you're playing, knowing that you're ministering to HIM first. :)

I second that. I was a little nervous on the first song, but I became more comfortable as the service went on. I couldn't have did it without Jesus. Keep Him first. And be sure and send Uriah DETAILS on how it went.

Definately Good advise. The Lord is definately first.
I have been Preaching the Gospel for a little more than 6 years, and I still get nervous before I PREACH, and once I get into the flow of what the Spirit of God is doing, I feel comfortable being used. I should think, and hope it will be the same with playing the Bass.
I will definately let you all know how it goes.... "IN Detail URIAH"
